Global market sentiments together with continued buying by foreign institutional investors led domestic markets to pose one of the best six consecutive weekly gains after almost a year. The fact behind such a move is that market participants are gaining a lot of confidence & believe that the domestic economic activity is getting stronger & stronger over the period. .

Encouraging advance tax payments for the Q4 March 2010 also assured the market participants for better than expected corporates profit. As expected Standard & Poor’s (S&P), the credit rating agency revised India’s outlook to ’stable’ from ‘negative’ with the government’s pledge to reduce fiscal deficit over the next three years in the budget. . The move complemented overall sentiments of the market post the S&P upgrade as some foreign investors who were restricted from investing in countries below a certain degree of credit worthiness would now come to the market. On the expected lines of monetary tightening, RBI surprised the markets on the last day of trading by increasing both policy rates by 25 bps, a month before its quarterly meeting scheduled in April. . In the light of sustained pickup in economic activity & headline inflation passing through the baseline projection of 8.5 for end-March 2010 has induced RBI to come up with such stronger action. Moreover, non-food manufacturing products that constitutes 52.2 per cent weight in WPI has seen sustained rise from negative (-0.4 per cent) in November 2009 to 4.3 per cent in February 2010.

Increasing capacity utilisation and rising commodity and energy prices are exerting pressure on overall inflation. The small hike of 25 bps in policy rates is considered only as a signal & if needed, RBI may come out with more of such steps in case of sustained inflationary conditions in the economy. In the coming week, interest rate sensitive like, Auto & Real estate stocks may see some pressure on the expectation of dearer loans in the future.

Overall trend of world markets is still up but the rise in dollar index every now and then gives some fear to the rally in commodities. Dollar index, which is at current levels of 80.75, if closes above its key resistance level of 81, can give jitters to various commodities and stock markets so one should take care. Nifty has support between 5150-5050 levels and Sensex between 17200-16800 levels.

Range trading from last few weeks has kept investors in a fix. Ambiguity over the next move is refraining investors to take large positions in commodities. Currency has become crucial here. Greece concern is capping the upside of euro and dollar index is not breaking its range.

Furthermore, there is no as such big fundamental news which can give a clear cut direction to commodities. Some supply disruption in copper and nickel can support the prices at higher side. Hence, cautious trading is advised for investors. . Even in agro commodities, arrival pressure in many commodities is limiting the upside despite the steady demand. Once arrivals get clear, bottom formation is expected in many agro commodities.

5. Cel mai ieftin concurent al Daciei Duster este un Kia Sportage şi costă 21.000 €. Avantaj Duster. Cel mai scump este 15.600 €. Adică o diferenţă de minimum 5.400 €. O economie cu care poţi să-ţi mai cumperi încă un Logan „chel” sau chiar sa-ţi faci o vacanţă de neuitat aproape oriunde în lume.

6. Interiorul este de Logan. Dar … surpriză ! Nu mai este atât de auster cum ne-am obişnuit. Tinde chiar să aibă mici „fitze”. Dar din cele utile. Spaţii de depozitare peste tot, tot felul de senzori şi martori inexistenţi pe Logan (ex. Martori de airbag pasager dezactivat sau centură pasager necuplată), volan îmbrăcat în piele, chiar şi tapiţerie din piele, bancheta spate fracţionabilă, geamuri electrice, aer condiţionat, ornamente elegante şi altele.

7. 4×4 Nissan. Îl găsim pe Qashquai şi Xtrail. Echipamente bune care nu au generat probleme de foarte multă vreme.

8. Aspectul exterior este elegant-sportiv si asta nu-i „de colea”.

9. Confort optim. Îmi amintesc de vechiul model de Freelander în care trebuia să mă fac mic ca să stau comod. În Duster stau chiar OK.

10. Portbagaj mărişor şi suficient pentru: frigider, televizor, canapea, varză, cartofi, porci, oi, câini, pisici sau foarte multe alte animale mici. Dacă rabat banchetele copii pot crede că au ieşit nu în curte ci pe terasă. Deci suficient pentru de toate.

11. Offroader … NU ! Dar nu-mi este frică să încerc să merg cu el pe unde nu sunt drumuri deloc. Nici măcar poteci. Poate doar un spaţiu îngust prin care să mă strecor. Am reuşit pe vremuri cu Dacia 1100 şi cu Oltcitul. Sunt sigur că merge. De fapt nici nu prea contează. La noi offroad este uneori şi suta de km de autostradă. De fapt, în 99,99 % din cazuri ne bucurăm de un 4×4 iarna şi atunci când ieşim la iarbă verde. Pentru restul de 0,01% din cazuri există maşini offroad veritabile, nu dau nume dar ştiu câteva. Oricum nu am bani pentru ele.

12. Garanţie 4 ani. Costuri de întreţinere mici.

We’ve all been in the situation where the sales associate says “can I interest you in an extended warranty?” The opinion most people seem to have is that it’s a waste of money, until it comes to vehicles. A buyer has a very important decision to make when it comes to whether they should extend the warranty on their car. The following tips can help you make that decision.

Research the Vehicle

Vehicles (especially used) are known for having issues specific to that make and model. For example, when I bought my last vehicle I made sure to get the extended warranty due to the fact that my research suggested that the particular make and model was susceptible to transmission problems. It was worth the few hundred dollars to potentially save myself over a thousand in the years that the vehicle is covered.

Can you afford out of pocket?

Some people have savings accounts devoted to things breaking down. While this is an awesome place to be financially, if you can afford to pay the repair bill if and when the vehicle breaks down, there’s no point in paying interest on the additional dollars financed to pay for the warranty.

Going Shopping… for a warranty?!

I love shopping! Okay, I love shopping for stuff a bit more interesting than a warranty. Regardless, to get the extended warranty that’s best for you, this is a great idea. Not only do dealerships offer extended warranties, but financial institutions (such as credit unions *wink wink*) do as well. Read the fine print

As with anything that involves a vehicle, there’s fine print on the extended warranty that could disclose things like deductibles, coverage options (rental, towing, etc), and even what their definition of “wear and tear” is. You may think you’re getting a fantastic deal, but the fine print could be a deal breaker. It may be a pain, but there’s nothing worse than paying for something that could turn out to be completely useless.

Used Vehicles

You can get extended warranties on used vehicles just as easily as you can new. Dealerships are sometimes reluctant to warranty vehicles more than a year or two old; however, you can once again shop around at financial institutions (including Park!) for a warranty. Speaking of used vehicles, if you’re buying from a private party, it’s *ALWAYS* a good idea to get the vehicle inspected… even if you’re buying from a family member. Telling someone you’ll buy their vehicle pending an inspection may make them roll their eyes or think that you don’t trust them; however, it’s a very legitimate safety precaution that could save you thousands of dollars down the road or even on your first trip around the block. Most mechanics are fairly inexpensive when it comes to inspections, and having a trusted mechanic picked out already will save some time. A warning sign that you could be getting someone else’s lemon is if they decline your request to have it inspected or if you’re just getting a “too good to be true” deal on the vehicle already.

Reimbursements

In the fine print somewhere should be the payment policy regarding warranty claims. If your warranty provider requires you to pay the money up front, that’s bad news. Getting a car repaired is expensive! From rental cars to towing to even the repairs themselves, the price tag can add up fast. You may even be forced to take out a loan to cover the costs if your warranty provider doesn’t work directly with the companies involved in getting you back on the road again. Also, ask about warranty reimbursements. Some warranty providers will give you a portion of your warranty back if your coverage period expires without a single claim! That’s almost like getting a tax refund that you weren’t even expecting!

It depends on your financial situation, the vehicle you buy, who you buy it from, and what the warranty covers. Stories of Toyota owners speeding out of control continue to pour over the airwaves, but one has to wonder why all these Toyotas have all of a sudden decided to act up now after the recall announcement and not before. Are these opportunists taking advantage of potential suit money or just individuals moved by the power of suggestion?

After all if you were speeding at top speeds of 90 or above, unable to slow your vehicle down, would you be able to grab your cell phone and dial the police department? Or would you put your car in neutral and slowly coast to a stop? We all know which one gets more media attention. Hmmmmmm, something to think about when we hear about another Toyota taking off at top speeds.

Esquire Magazine called the new Acura ZDX the “Lady Gaga” of new cars. Lady Gaga may be the star of the future, and that’s how the magazine thinks of Acura’s new model. It’s come “…out of nowhere, time warped from the future, icy cool, hard to define, fascinating and gorgeous,” wrote Dan Neil about the car.

It’s so advanced that you can control temperatures separately for your passengers and yourself in the car with your voice. Satellites beam down to give driver’s reports on weather, and you can get real-time traffic reports, all with the sound of your voice. All you have to do is ask.

These features help to sell cars, even in this poor economy. But DCH Tustin Acura’s General Manager Dick Hsu says his 24-year-old dealership was hit with a 30 percent decrease in sales in 2009.

In spite of that, Hsu’s dealership continues to participate in charitable causes in Orange County, he says. Now his efforts are directed to earthquake victims in Haiti and in Chile, and by mid-March this Acura dealership will send donations to Doctors Without Borders/Medecins Sans Frontieres.

“We wanted to do something immediately,” Hsu says. “Giving personally was fine, but we wanted the business to get involved. I went on the Doctors Without Borders Web site and found a way we as a company could give to those people in need.

“Even my own doctor belongs to the organization and traveled overseas to help,” he said.

Doctors Without Borders is a nonprofit international organization that has helped people in many countries who are victims of violence or catastrophe. Doctors and nurses are committed to quality medical care for people in crisis regardless of race, religion or politics.

DCH Tustin Acura has also participated in the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Second Harvest Food Bank and this last holiday season they contributed to the Orange County Rescue Mission.

A big pink box with a slot on the top at the receptionist’s desk, beside a vase of fresh carnations, is where employees and customers can drop money for relief aid in Haiti and other earth quake victims. Donors recieve a carnation in recognition, and the dealership will match the proceeds earned doubling the total amount collected.

One of the dealership’s major efforts is for Students Against Destructive Decisions – or SADD. It’s a national organization and Tustin Acura sends drivers to talk to high-schoolers about risky driving. It used to be Students Against Drunk Driving, but the focus has changed.

“We want them to drive,” Hsu says. “But we want them to drive safely.”

“We’re unique,” Hsu says. “We are the only dealer awarded the ‘Dealer of Excellence’ award six times by J.D. Powers. Customers vote for dealerships in that case. We were also awarded Acura’s ‘Dealership of Distinction’ again this year for the seventh time.

“Our customers return to us when they buy another Acura, because they are loyal and know we take care of our customers consistently,” Hsu says. “Our managers’ average tenure here is 20 years.”

Stuttgart. Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, was able to continue its positive sales trends on the US market in February 2010. With 1,531 vehicles delivered to US customers, sales are 1.5 % above February 2009’s figures. Thus, for the sixth consecutive time in the current fiscal year, Porsche was able to increase deliveries even though the severe winter weather on the US East Coast, the most important region for Porsche, did little to bring customers into the showrooms.

In February, 409 Gran Turismo Panameras were delivered to customers in the USA. Especially good news to report is that sales of the sporty Cayenne SUV, with 599 models sold, was 35 % higher than February 2009’s figures. Sales of the Boxster models, to which the Cayman also belongs, fell 64 % compared to the same period last year with 184 units delivered to customers. Lastly, the sales figures for the 911 models were 39 % lower than February 2009 with 339 sports cars sold.

Happy 10th Birthday Sony Playstation 2!

The Playstation 2 in all its glory

Today is the 10th birthday of the Playstation 2! If I didn’t have a Playstation 3 without backwards compatibility, my PS2 would certainly have a ton of play time. I still remember when I first got my PS2. I was a straight A student and my parents bought me a PS2 to reward me for the hard work I’ve put into school. The first game I ever put in was “ESPN Winter X Games Snowboarding”. I couldn’t believe that graphics that this console was capable of. Although I have a strong background in gaming (I think everyone grew up on Nintendo back in the day), I think that the moment I got my PS2, was the moment in my life that I became a true gamer.

I remember when life used to be so simple. There was only one console that was better than all of the others, and that was the PS2. There are so many PS2 titles that are rated 9/10 and higher on most, if not all review sites. To celebrate, I’ll make a quick list of my top five favourite Playstation 2 games of all time.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3

I have spent an insane amount of my time playing this game. After school, I would play this game in Free Skate Mode and shoot the shit for a while before supper and homework every night. I would simply sit there raking in the points by the millions casually skating around with no purpose except for the freedom of just having fun. THPS3 is exactly what a game should be: fun. I could literally entertain myself performing caspers, backflips, truckstands, etc. and never get bored of it. It’s sad to see that the modern THPS games don’t hold up to the classics like THPS2, but this still remains a classic to me to this day.

Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec

Oh, what to say about this game. This is another game where I’ve spent avoiding the main points of the game, and just enjoy its Free Run mode. Although I’m not too big of a fan of the soundtrack, I still found it fun to play my own music while hearing the engine of my Mazda RX-7 scream. I’d also like to say that once you get used to the game’s physics engine, the game itself became one of the best drifting games ever in my opinion! Polyphony Digital has done an amazing job with this game, which is why I’m disappointed with the delay of the largely anticipated Gran Turismo 5. Yeah, yeah yeah. “We’re just waiting for an open window for sales”. Just give me my GT5 already!

Dark Cloud 2

When I first got my hands on the first Dark Cloud title, I was amazed at how epic the game was. It was new and different from all of the other games out there, so naturally, the sequel improves on all aspects of the first game and makes it better. I am happy to say that I still play Dark Cloud 2 and that I have not lost interest in this game at all. Although the dungeon crawling is quite repetitive, I hardly notice it when my goal is to get the best possible sword, because I think the visual design of the swords and other weaponry (but mainly swords!) are what captivated me. The brilliant and colourful designs were just amazing. Max and Monica were both very likable characters and so are the rest of the supporting cast. The leveling systems were improved immensely from the first game, and everything just seems so natural. Definitely a top pick. I hope a Dark Cloud 3 is in the near future. I seriously wished White Knight Chronicles didn’t come out if it meant a Dark Cloud 3 release was coming. Please! Give me a DC3!!!

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

I personally don’t think there has been a Grand Theft Auto game released after San Andreas that was as good or better than San Andreas. The storyline is so wacky, but it’s sandbox style gameplay worked so well. GTA:SA is probably one of the funniest games I have EVER played. In all honesty, I loved how the cars of the game are modeled after some of my favourite Japanese cars. It had a Mazda RX-7, Nissan Skyline, Toyota Supra MKIV (FWD? WTF!), Acura NSX, Subaru WRX, Mitsubishi 3000GT, etc. I spent a good portion of the game modifying my cars and driving the crap out of them. I would drift down mountains, pull drift donuts, rally up and down the side of a mountain, canonball run around the entire map, have top speed trials in the country side.. man, what couldn’t you do in this game? Aside from modifying and driving your cars to your heart’s content, you also had access to: stunt moto X, piloting airplanes, sky diving, gambling, having sex with prostitutes, eating burgers, shopping for clothes to look fly, fighting the US Army, flying with a jet pack, getting high, having gang wars, having your own gang, owning your own property, competing in marathons, hanging out with Triads, flying fighter jets and attack helicopters, playing as a taxi driver, playing as an ambulance driver, playing as a super hero, running around in a gimp suit beating people with a dildo, playing pool, having girlfriends, going on dates with your girlfriends, cheating on your girlfriends, shooting your girlfriends if she gets on your case, having a friend join you in a two-player massacre, swimming, getting fat, working out, stunt BMXing at the skate park, stealing a combine and running people over with it, importing your favourite car, ETC ETC ETC. Seriously, you don’t need me to go on. This is a game full of quality.

Final Fantasy X

I didn’t like this game at first. It actually took me a few years to force myself to play a an hour of the game. I couldn’t understand why it was so good.

…then, the story started to unravel.

I couldn’t believe how involved the story was. I was hooked on the story and the characters in the game. This is one of the few games where I actually played as it was meant to be, and for me to call it a classic is saying a lot. I don’t think I’ve ever felt sad for playing a game. It wasn’t because it was horrible, but it was because I could almost feel how the characters are feeling. You can feel the hate that Tidus has for his father, you can feel the struggle that Wakka feels over the loss of his brother, you can feel the sorrow that Yuna feels as she gets closer to the end of her pilgrimage. I wish modern games had stories like this one. Today, stories are just so-so. To this date, no game other than FFX has left me depressed after beating the game because the game was over and I wanted more.

Cea de-a 80-a ediţie a Salonului Auto de la Geneva îşi va deschide mâine porţile oficial. Standurile celui mai important eveniment de profil din Europa au fost acoperite cu o avalanşă de automobile strălucitoare.

Producătorii auto din toată lumea au pregătit pentru Salonul Auto de la Geneva (care se deschide mâine pentru public) modelele cu care speră să stârnească interesul clienţilor, într-un an în care guvernele ţărilor cu cele mai mari pieţe de pe continent nu mai au pe agendă programele de susţinere a reînnoirii parcurilor auto. Peste 30 de premiere mondiale vor fi expuse la Geneva în acest an.

Dacia iese cu primul său SUV

Printre ele se află şi modelul Dacia Duster, primul SUV lansat de constructorul auto din istoria sa. Al şaselea model din gama Dacia a fost dezvoltat pe aceeaşi platformă ca şi „umilul” Logan.

SUV-ul va fi lansat comercial pe 6 martie, cu un preţ minim de 10.500 de euro, în versiunea 4×2 (12.300 de euro pentru versiunea de bază 4×4). Cel mai echipat model este Laureate, ce va fi comercializat cu 15.600 de euro, cu TVA inclus. Un model intermediar este Ambiance, al cărui preţ porneşte de la 11.000 de euro.

Dacia Duster va concura cu Skoda Yeti, Nissan Qashqai, Toyota RAV4, Kia Sportage, Volkswagen Tiguan, Fiat Sedici sau Suzuki SX4 – modele SUV/crossover cu dimensiuni care gravitează în intervalul 4,1-4,4 metri şi care dispun de versiuni 2×4 sau 4×4.

Mercedes Benz F800 Concept

Debuting at the Geneva Motor Show next month, the Mercedes-Benz F800 concept car is highly-touted by Mercedes press release scribes for its eco-tech features. But what’s probably of greater interest to most is its stunningly gorgeous design, which is everyone’s first peek at what the next-generation CLS-Class sedan is going to look like. If this is just the beginning then there is a long road ahead of us.

The F800 introduces two new technologies that will become standard features in upcoming models; Distronic Plus Traffic Jam Assistant and Pre-Safe 360-degree system. The Distronic Plus is an enhanced version of Mercedes’ active cruise control system, which can now steer the car through curves as long as it’s traveling under 25 mph. The Pre-Safe 360-degree system expands on the existing Pre-Safe collision detection/mitigation system to the rear of the car, whereas now, if Pre-Safe senses that a rear-end impact is imminent, it’ll apply the brakes in a bid to keep the car from getting into any accidents.

Mercedes-Benz also boasts the concept’s flexible powertrain platform. The realistic option is a plug-in hybrid system that’s basically an offshoot of the V6 light-hybrid setup found in the S400 sedan. Mercedes says this new plug-in gas-electric system, which is good for over 400 combined horsepower, gives the car an EV-only driving range of 18 miles. The automaker has announced that a new plug-in system is headed to the next-gen S-Class, so don’t dismiss the F800’s hybrid setup as trendy green pandering.

Reputed international cyclists like Stuart O’Grady and Baden Cooke competed in the International Elite 100kms Men’s Race, which was mentored by cycling great Eddy Mercx. Skoda Auto’s association with the environment friendly sport of cycling has been a distinguished one. For the past six years, Skoda Auto has been an official partner of the legendry international cycle race, the ‘Tour De France.’ Bringing this association closer home, Skoda Auto India collaborated with Mumbai Cyclothon to lend its support to the events pledge of saving fuel and promoting a greener environment. In this regard, Skoda Auto’s highly fuel efficient and eco-friendly vehicles were also present during the event.

Previously too, Skoda Auto India has been involved in eco-friendly campaigns by organising several free pollution-check drives across its 65 dealerships in the country. Skoda Auto India’s participation in Mumbai Cyclothon further augments Skoda’s environment friendly measures.

Mumbai Cyclothon had multiple race categories – the Amateur ride of 24 km, the corporate/group ride of 24 km, the Green ride of 12 km and the kids ride for youngsters between the ages of 8 and 13 spanning 2 km and an International Elite Men’s Race of a 100 km. IRS Presents: Eight Facts about the New Vehicle Sales and Excise Tax Deduction

If you bought a new vehicle in 2009, you may be entitled to a special tax deduction for the sales and excise taxes on your purchase.

Here are eight important facts the Internal Revenue Service wants you to know about this deduction:

State and local sales and excise taxes paid on up to $49,500 of the purchase price of each qualifying vehicle are deductible.
Qualified motor vehicles generally include new cars, light trucks, motor homes and motorcycles.
To qualify for the deduction, the new cars, light trucks and motorcycles must weigh 8,500 pounds or less. New motor homes are not subject to the weight limit.
Purchases must occur after Feb. 16, 2009, and before Jan. 1, 2010.
Purchases made in states without a sales tax — such as Alaska, Delaware, Hawaii, Montana, New Hampshire and Oregon — may also qualify for the deduction. Taxpayers in these states may be entitled to deduct other qualifying fees or taxes imposed by the state or local government. The fees or taxes that qualify must be assessed on the purchase of the vehicle and must be based on the vehicle’s sales price or as a per unit fee.
This deduction can be taken regardless of whether the buyers itemize their deductions or choose the standard deduction. Taxpayers who do not itemize will add this additional amount to the standard deduction on their 2009 tax return.
The amount of the deduction is phased out for taxpayers whose modified adjusted gross income is between $125,000 and $135,000 for individual filers and between $250,000 and $260,000 for joint filers.
Taxpayers who do not itemize must complete Schedule L, Standard Deduction for Certain Filers to claim the deduction.

It’s called the Honda Odyssey Concept, but this latest offering at the Chicago Auto Show gives a very real indication of the production version of the fourth-generation US-spec Honda Odyssey.

Following what is already a sleek people-mover design, Honda said it wanted the new Odyssey to appear lower and more grounded. As a consequence the minivan sits on the same 3m wheelbase but is 3.6cm wider and incorporates tighter bodywork and uncomplicated lines.

While the huge alloys and discs of the show car are unlikely to make it to production, the “lightning bolt” beltline – designed to increase third-row comfort and visibility – will be a showroom feature of the new Odyssey.

Mums and dads in the front will also be happy to know that the production version is expected to have seatbacks, despite the interior design sketches released at the show.

Honda is yet to confirm specific drivetrain data but expects fuel consumption to drop from 14.7 litres/100km in the city and 10.2 litres/100km on the highway to 12.4 and 8.4 respectively.

Honda also hinted at an eco model with “enhanced aerodynamics” and “advanced powertrain technologies” that would improve economy and emissions figures even further.

The Honda Odyssey Concept was designed and engineered in the US and will be produced in Alabama for a likely 2011 debut.

For a few beans more than 300 large (thousand), the 2010 Alfa Romeo 8C Spider has no option but to live up it’s hype. Underpinned by components filched from the Maserati parts bin, the 8C Spider is gracefully customized with carbon fiber bodywork, and Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes, 15.0 inches at the front and 14.2 out back, sitting behind 20-inch wheels. Weighing at 198 pounds heavier than the natural coupe, the Spider shows it’s weight in platinum is off the scale.

The control-arm suspension is lifted from the Gran Turismo, so is the dry-sump version of the Maserati 4.7-liter V-8 that produces 444 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque. It drives the rear wheels through a rear-mounted, six-speed automated manual transmission. To offset raising the center of gravity versus the coupe, this speed demon has a powered cloth top (rather than a folding metal roof) and a carbon-fiber windshield surround. The proclaimed top speed of 181 mph is unchanged from the coupe’s, but the 0 to 60 mph performance will likely be 0.2 second slower, at 4.4 seconds.

The interior is stunning as well, carrying the perfume of Poltrona Frau leather. There’s a sense of old-fashioned artisanship that works toward justifying the price. For instance, the panels that surround the gauges and the heating and ventilation system are machined from billet aluminum just as in a high-end Chip Foose hot rod. The Recaro seats have manual adjustments and are constructed of carbon fiber, a material that also adorns the cabin.

Like the 8C Competizione coupe, 500 convertibles will be distributed. Just 35 will make it to the U.S., compared with 84 coupes. The convertible is about 30 percent less rigid than the coupe, quickly adding that the “rigidity of the coupe is very, very high.” As a result, Alfa recalibrated the springs, anti-roll bars, and shocks. The driving experience alone makes the car special. Like the Zagato and Touring-bodied 8C-2300 and 8C-2900 Alfas from the 1930s, the 8C Spider will look fabulous on concourse lawns 50 years from now.

Way back in 1996, the 40 km range of the Peugeot Scoot’Elec produced a chorus of yawns, but when the new E-Vivacity hits showrooms later this year; it will be greeted by an eco-friendly public. Emissions aside, its remarkably low cost of use will push this scoot’.

Though its 4kW engine is the equivalence of a frugal 50cc scooter, its running costs will be one tenth as it recharges from a domestic power point at regular tariffs. The Lithium Ion Cobalt battery has many advantages: it allows a minimum of 1,000 intensive charging/discharging cycles without any harm and without a memory effect, meaning it can cover over 40,000 km under normal usage. The Battery Management System monitors the charge and the temperature of the different elements, ensures the safety of the system, manages battery life and a full charge takes around four hours at a 230 V – 16 A domestic socket, using the bike’s on-board charger and charging cable, which reside beneath the seat.

While a complete charge on empty takes four hours, the first two hours recover 80% of total battery capacity, while the last two hours are used to level out the monoblocs. The sophistication of the electronic management helps to optimise the energy output and life of the batteries. The new E-Vivacity hits showrooms late this year, it will be entering into a far more ecologically-aware marketplace.

With talks of a more advance car that Honda is developing, the car of the future is right around the corner. Honda is also saying the their new car will run on hydrogen or h2o. With an exterior similar to a Lambo, this car is definitely sexy! Either way the sound of hydrogen in a car already seems pretty cool. the furry armadillos have been following us

they look like anteaters with greyhound bodies,

and fur like golden retrievers. erin didn’t think they

were cute. they didn’t think much of her either.

the matron loves it when i scratch both her cheeks at once.

james finds us and i’ve forgotten all about my

flat-tired table.

we walk to a neo-buddhist neo-shrine, i think it’s inspired

by the japanese, but i bet the armadillos had something

to do with it. they seem quite at home there.

it seems just a little too small for humans of our size,

but we fit ok. there’s a small walkway down the middle

with some single-stream fountains flowing right onto it.

they would soak your feet if you walked down it.

Tips for parents of Teenage Drivers

Don’t rely solely on driver education.

High school driver education may be the most convenient way to learn driving skills, but it doesn’t always produce safer drivers. Parents also should set good examples when they drive while reinforcing the lessons their teens learned in drivers ed.

Restrict night driving.

Most nighttime fatal crashes among young drivers occur between 9 p.m. and midnight, so you can reduce their risk of a crash by restricting nighttime driving after 9 p.m. The problem isn’t just that late-night driving requires more skill. Outings late at night tend to be recreational. In these circumstances, even teens who usually follow all the rules can easily be distracted or encouraged to take risks.

Restrict passengers.

Teen passengers in a vehicle can distract a beginning driver and/or lead to greater risk-taking. Because young drivers often transport their friends, there’s a teen passenger problem as well as a teen driver problem. In 2003, 59 percent of teenage passenger deaths occurred in vehicles driven by another teenager. While night driving with passengers is particularly lethal, many fatal crashes with teen passengers occur during the day. The best policy is to restrict teen passengers, especially multiple teens, all the time.

Supervise practice driving.

Take an active role in helping your teenager learn how to drive. Plan a series of practice sessions in a wide variety of situations, including night driving. Give beginners time to work up to challenges like driving in heavy traffic or on the freeway. Supervised practice should be spread over at least six months and continue even after a teenager graduates from a learner’s permit to a restricted or full license.

Remember you are a role model.

New drivers learn a lot by example, so practice safe driving. Teens who have crashes and violations often have parents with poor driving records.

Require safety belt use.

Don’t assume that seat belt use when you’re in the car with your 16-year-old means belts will be used all the time, especially when your child is out with peers. Remember that belt use is lower among teenagers than older people. Insist on belts all the time.

Prohibit driving after drinking.

Make it clear that it’s illegal and highly dangerous for a teenager to drive after drinking alcohol or using any other drug. While alcohol isn’t a factor in most crashes of 16-year-old drivers, even small amounts of alcohol will impair teens.

Choose vehicles for safety, not image.

Teenagers should drive vehicles that reduce their chances of a crash and offer protection in case they do crash. For example, small cars don’t offer the best protection in a crash. Avoid cars with performance images that might encourage speeding. Also, be mindful that certain vehicles with a higher center of gravity may be more prone to roll over.

Born in 1894, Agnes was the second of nine girls born into an honest-living Catholic farming family. She christened herself Lillian LaFrance and quickly shook the dust of her hometown off her boots sometime around 1916, and roared off to create the life she had always dreamt of, carving it raw as she went along. She began drome riding in 1924, and left a blurry, yet brilliant legacy behind that still haunts many who are taken by the images of her incredible spirit staring back through squinty eyes in a copy of a copy of old grainy photos. Morbi’s historic ‘Julto Pul’ to re-open in last week of Jan

Rajkot, January 4 The historic Julto Pul (hanging bridge) of Morbi will be thrown open to the public, in the last week of January, after a gap of nearly three decades. The repair and renovation work on this engineering marvel, inspired by the famous Hanging Bridge of London, is on the verge of completion.

Spanning the Machuchu River, it is one of the few hanging structures in India. It was constructed of special teak wood, iron and wires imported from England by the erstwhile ruler of Morbi, Thakore Vaghe, some 180 years back.

Due to its unique design and cultural value, the bridge has almost become synonymous with the industrial town of Morbi in Rajkot district.

The bridge connecting Barbargadh Palace to Nazarbaug was in operation till 1979 when a devastating cyclone struck this town. Since then, several repairs have taken place, but due to its deteriorating condition, the Rajkot district administration closed the bridge to save this famous Saurashtra landmark from complete collapse.

The Rajkot collectorate’s call for the public-private participation for the renovation of Julto Pul received a favourable response from the Morbi-based Ajanta Group, who are among the country’s leading wall-clock and tile manufacturers.

“The Julto Pul is being renovated at a cost of Rs 1 crore. The entire expense has been borne by the Ajanta Group. This time, superior quality material has been used to give the bridge at-least 10 years’ relief from wear and tear,” said Rajkot District Collector Pradeep Sharma.

Sharma said over 90 per cent of the repair work has been completed and the Julto Pul is likely to be reopened for the public from January 27. The district administration is, however, yet to decide whether to declare it as a tourist site, or to open it for regular traffic. “It is yet to be decided whether it should be reopened just as a tourist site or also allow commuters on the bridge,” said Sharma

The Julto Pul was constructed over a span of four years starting 1883. The bridge is 756-feet long and 4.6-feet wide. The main wooden lane has now been replaced with aluminium composite sheet, which is not only durable, but more lightweight compared to teak. The wooden support beams have also been replaced with weatherproof aluminium channels. To give it a complete weatherproof effect, the sheets and channels are being coated with high temperature aluminium paint.

Our local Porsche Club, the Coastal Empire Region held their annual Christmas party at the dealership last night. It was a great turn out with wonderful food and drink. Everyone brought a toy for the Toy’s for Tot’s program. They also announced the results of this years election of new board members. Buddy Brown was elected President, David Grandt Vice President, Conard White Secretary and Basil Mathews Treasurer.

SPEAKER: The type of person I feel is going to be very successful is one that comes in with a great attitude and a desire to do well. Come in with that great attitude because it’s going to show in your performance on a day to day basis. Not just being content on, OK this is my job, this is what I’m going to do. But what is that next step where it’s actually going to take you to be more successful?

SPEAKER: We’re in a people business. We want folks to be good team players, to link up with their colleagues to make positive change here. We want them to have superior interactions with our customers. And you genuinely got to like people to be able to successfully do that.

SPEAKER: Associates here work hard and play hard.

SPEAKER: There’s a lot of hard work involved. We have high expectations of all of our associates. But there is no reason why we can’t do all of that and at the same time have fun.

1: Keep your headlights on, even during the day. It helps other drivers to spot you easier.

2: Increase your following distance. New drivers often have a hard time judging distance. Giving the car ahead some extra space allows more time to react and stop in case of an emergency.

3: Travel slowly in poor weather. Even in rain traction is drastically reduced. Slowing for corners is especially important.

4: Make sure your car is ready for all kinds of weather. Check your tires, anti-freeze, washer fluid, and make sure your oil is fresh. Consider purchasing snow tires for the winter months.

5: Don’t let your gas get too low. You don’t want to be stranded on the side of the road! Also, fuel pumps can become strained when your tank has less fuel in it.

How Traffic Collision Reports Use California Vehicle Code Section 23103 And How Insurance Companies Interpret Them

In traffic collision reports, a violation of California Vehicle Code Section 23103 is one of the Vehicle Code Sections that can be cited as being the primary collision factor for an auto accident in California. This is true whether the accident only caused injuries or if the accident was a fatal accident which caused one or more fatalities. Although a traffic collision report is not evidence, insurance companies treat them as if they are.

California Vehicle Code Section 23103 provides:

23103. (a) A person who drives a vehicle upon a highway in willful or wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property is guilty of reckless driving. (b) A person who drives a vehicle in an offstreet parking facility, as defined in subdivision (c) of Section 12500, in willful or wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property is guilty of reckless driving. (c) Persons convicted of the offense of reckless driving shall be punished by imprisonment in a county jail for not less than five days nor more than 90 days or by a fine of not less than one hundred forty-five dollars ($145) nor more than one thousand dollars ($1,000), or by both that fine and imprisonment, except as provided in Section 23104 or 23105.

When a Police or CHP Officer, or a Sheriff’s Deputy states in his or her report either that the primary collision factor in an auto accident was one party’s violation of a certain vehicle code section such as the one above, and that one of the parties is at fault for violating that code section, the Officer or Deputy is stating what he or she believes to be the underlying cause of the accident.

The reason insurance companies treat the collision reports as if they are admissible evidence is that they know if put on the witness stand, the investigating officer or deputy will almost always testify in a manner consistent with the conclusions in his or her report. That testimony becomes evidence and will often sway a jury in their determination of fault for an accident.

While an investigating officer’s job is to determine if there was a violation of the law and not to determine who should be at fault in a civil dispute such as a car accident claim, insurance companies often view these two determinations as one and the same.

A police officer assigned to investigate the scene of an accident does not have the role that a trier of fact does in a courtroom. The officer is not there to render a verdict and determine who is responsible for the damages. Rather, the officer is there to determine if any laws were broken. The officer makes such a determination based on his or her having seen the damage to the vehicles, and having spoken to the drivers and the witnesses when their memories are freshest. He or she is thus often in a position to make a well-educated determination of who caused the accident.

Unfortunately, despite the experience of most investigating officers who are dispatched to the scene of an accident, sometimes mistakes are made by these officers. Quite often one or both parties to an accident will lie to them and an officer or deputy will not always be able to determine which of the parties is telling the truth. The evidence from the scene, while important, may also be misleading as to what actually occurred to cause the accident.

Sometimes an Officer or Deputy cannot determine with any degree of certainty which party was at fault and will cite two possible Vehicle Code Sections, one for each party in a two-party collision, that may have been violated. In that case, the Police or CHP Officer or Deputy will often state that the primary collision factor is unknown.

Even if there are witnesses to an accident, the Officer of Deputy may discount the statements of some or all of the witnesses if they were friends or relatives of one of the drivers.

Although, as stated above, the conclusion of fault by an officer or deputy does not carry the same weight as a determination of fault by a judge or jury, the importance of the citation of this or any other California code section in the police report is that insurance companies treat the conclusions in these traffic collision reports in a great majority of cases as if the conclusions were written in stone and evaluate a party’s claim based on the findings of fault in these reports.

A traffic collision report may be amended by the police department or the CHP where it contains obvious mistakes, such as when the officer or deputy has mixed up the names of the parties. Supplemental reports are sometimes written when new evidence comes to light, such as when a hit and run party is located. But for the most part, most police departments, Sheriff’s offices and the California Highway Patrol will not amend a report when a party complains and states why he or she doesn’t feel they should have been found at fault for a collision. They will, however, in most cases allow a person to fill out a Counter Report, which, unfortunately simply does not carry much weight with an insurance company.

If the Primary Collision Factor for an accident is unknown, one should look on the traffic collision report to see if the Police or California Highway Patrol Officer or Sheriff’s Deputy cited any “Other Associated Factors” in the traffic collision report as having had a role to play in causing the collision. There may have been faulty equipment, as with some truck accidents, or the roadway itself may have been dangerous.

California Vehicle Code Section 22454 Importance Explained by Attorney for Car Accident Injury Victims

A violation of California Vehicle Code Section 22454 is one of the Vehicle Code Sections that can be cited as being the primary collision factor for an auto accident in California. California Vehicle Code Section 22454 provides:

22454. (a) The driver of any vehicle, upon meeting or overtaking, from either direction, any schoolbus equipped with signs as required in this code, that is stopped for the purpose of loading or unloading any schoolchildren and displays a flashing red light signal and stop signal arm, as defined in paragraph (4) of subdivision (b) of Section 25257, if equipped with a stop signal arm, visible from front or rear, shall bring the vehicle to a stop immediately before passing the schoolbus and shall not proceed past the schoolbus until the flashing red light signal and stop signal arm, if equipped with a stop signal arm, cease operation. (b) (1) The driver of a vehicle upon a divided highway or multiple-lane highway need not stop upon meeting or passing a schoolbus that is upon the other roadway. (2) For the purposes of this subdivision, a multiple-lane highway is any highway that has two or more lanes of travel in each direction. (c) (1) If a vehicle was observed overtaking a schoolbus in violation of subdivision (a), and the driver of the schoolbus witnessed the violation, the driver may, within 24 hours, report the violation and furnish the vehicle license plate number and description and the time and place of the violation to the local law enforcement agency having jurisdiction of the offense. That law enforcement agency shall issue a letter of warning prepared in accordance with paragraph (2) with respect to the alleged violation to the registered owner of the vehicle. The issuance of a warning letter under this paragraph shall not be entered on the driving record of the person to whom it is issued, but does not preclude the imposition of any other applicable penalty. (2) The Attorney General shall prepare and furnish to every law enforcement agency in the state a form letter for purposes of paragraph (1), and the law enforcement agency may issue those letters in the exact form prepared by the Attorney General. The Attorney General may charge a fee to any law enforcement agency that requests a copy of the form letter to recover the costs of preparing and providing that copy. (d) This section also applies to a roadway upon private property.

Neue KFZ-Steuer in Holland. Klimaschutz oder Verkehrsüberwachung?

Die holländische Regierung plant ein neues KFZ-Steuersystem. Ab 2012 zahlt der Autofahrer abhängig von den gefahrenen Kilometern. Das klingt prinzipiell vernünftig, so müssten diejenigen mehr entrichten, die Straße und Umwelt höher belasten. Bemerkenswert finde ich, dass die Daten via GPS ermittelt werden sollen. Das globale Satellitensystem dient eigentlich der Positionsbestimmung, zur Erfassung der zurückgelegten Kilometer wäre es nicht erforderlich.

Eine “Blackbox” mit GPS-Empfang, die in jedem KFZ auf Hollands Straßen installiert ist, dagegen bietet ungeahnte Möglichkeiten, weit über die Ermittlung der Höhe einer kilometerabhängigen KFZ-Steuererhebung hinaus: Man könnte ein komplettes Bewegungsprofil von allen Autos erstellen. Wer die Daten der “Blackbox” auswertet, weiß wann der Autofahrer wo unterwegs war und wie schnell er gefahren ist. Die Polizei hätte es einfach, beispielsweise Geschwindigkeitsübertretungen festzustellen und nachzuweisen. Das Daten-Modul könnte also als elektronischer Fahrtenschreiber verwendet werden. Sogar der Ablauf eines Verkehrsunfalls wäre im Nachhinein rekonstruierbar, es ließe sich problemlos feststellen, wer wann gebremst oder geblinkt hat oder wie hoch die Geschwindigkeit vor dem Unfall war.

Keinesfalls möchte ich der holländischen Regierung unterstellen, dass sie unter dem Vorwand einer Verkehrssteuerreform ihre autofahrenden Bürger überwachen möchte. Wir wissen doch, dass Politiker keine Hintergedanken haben und immer nur das Beste für ihr Volk wollen,…

Mich wundert nur das die Bundesregierung dergleichen bislang noch nicht in Erwägung gezogen hat.

Man muss das auch mal positiv sehen: Denkbar wäre, dass zukünftig das Multifunktionsdatenerfassungsmodul mit elektronischen Anzeigetafeln funktechnisch kommuniziert, so dass diese den Fahrer persönlich und zielgruppenorientiert informieren können:

Mein Auto, der Öldruckschalter und ich

In vier Wochen wird mein Auto stillgelegt und meinte nun, mir noch etwas als Erinnerung mit auf den Weg geben zu müssen.

Nachdem ich am Mittwochabend alle meine Mitfahrer in HH eingesammelt hatte, ging es auf die Autobahn. Ich freute mich schon darauf, mich mit Rikke zum Chinesischessen zu treffen. Kurz vor Quickborn leuchtete dann die Öl-Warnleuchte auf – kein Öl mehr drin. Ab auf den Standstreifen, Warnweste angezogen, Warndreieck aufgestellt, Mitfahrer hinter der Leitplanke platziert und ich bin los gelaufen zum letzten Rasthof, um Öl zu holen. Der war zum Glück nur 2-3km entfernt – allerdings waren zu dem Zeitpunkt meine Schuhe schon gut durchnässt.

Dort habe ich dann Öl gekauft und bin wieder zurück. Öl rein geschüttet und trotzdem wurde es als leer angezeigt. Unter’s Auto geschaut: Das Öl kam direkt wieder raus. Zu dem Zeitpunkt war schon eine Stunde vergangen, ich war klitschnass und schwitzte und fror gleichzeitig. Allerdings muss ich gestehen, dass ich das erst später gemerkt habe, als ein wenig Ruhe einkehrte.

Also ADAC gerufen und mit den Mitfahrern schon spekuliert, was das sein könnte. Zwei von denen hatten bereits ihre Rückfahrt nach HH organisiert (die Eltern der einen sind gekommen und habe auch noch eine Frau mitgenommen). Als die los fuhren kam die Polizei mit Blaulicht – was ich denn hier machen würde und ob ich sie angerufen hätte? Ich steh hier aus Spaß- klar, aber angerufen hatte ich dort nicht. Naja, die guckten sich das an und der einzige Kommentar war “Naja, das Öl aber dann schön wegmachen, ne?” und dann sind die wieder losgefahren. In dem Moment machte meine Batterie schlapp und die Warnblinker hörten auf zu blinken … Super! Jetzt leuchteten nur noch meine Warnweste und das Warndreieck (achja, hatte ich erwähnt, dass in dem Moment auch mein Handy ausging und die Frau, die noch bei mir war, keines hatte?).

Zum Glück kam dann endlich der Typ vom ADAC. Er konnte so auch nichts erkennen, außer dass Öl austrat (wusste ich schon!). Er fing dann an von wegen “Motorplatzer” und “das wird teuer” … Naja, dann ging es darum, wohin ich geschleppt werden wollte. Nach Flensburg hätte es 500 Euro gekostet – klar, hab ich auch bar bei mir. Ich bat ihn, mich zu einer freien Werkstatt in der Nähe zu bringen. Als das Auto dann aufgeladen war, sahen wir erst, dass der Liter, den ich reingekippt hatte, komplett unten wieder raus gekommen war. Der ADAC-Typ hatte aber Bindemittel dabei. Mit seinem Handy konnte ich auch Mathias anrufen, dass er sich auf den Weg macht, um mich in Norderstedt (dort war die Werkstatt) abzuholen.

Innerlich hatte ich mich schon mit hohen Abschlepp- und Reparaturkosten (das Geld brauche ich ja auch nicht unbedingt in den USA … ) angefreundet und auch mit dem Gedanken, dass heute Abend (war ja schon 22 Uhr) nichts mehr passiert. Immerhin hat der Typ von der Werkstatt dann noch unter die Haube geschaut, um festzustellen, dass es kein Motorplatzer war (Gott sei DANK!!!) und dass es nur der Öldruckschalter war. Er hatte zwar keinen passenden, aber konnte das Loch provisorisch abdichten, so dass ich auf jeden Fall noch nach Flensburg kam. Was glaubt Ihr, wie glücklich ich war. Mathias schnell angerufen, dass er wieder umdrehen kann. Immerhin war er erst 40km gefahren (noch mal an dieser Stelle ein großes Dankeschön!). Dann ging es ans Bezahlen und der Werkstatttyp meinte “gib mir 20 bar, das passt dann” (ich mein, allein das Opel-Öl, was er mir reingekippt hat, war ganz schön teuer) und dann kam der Abschlepptyp, ich solle ihm 30 Euro bar auf die Hand geben und er trägt das dann als Leerfahrt ein (hätte mich sonst 100 Euro gekostet). Mir fiel so ein großer Stein vom Herzen!

Ich machte mein Auto startklar (brauchte Starthilfe wegen der Batterie) und wollte nur schnell noch den leeren Ölkanister in der Werkstatt in den Müll werfen. Da bin ich ausgerutscht und lang hingefallen. Mein linkes Knie ist tierisch dick und blau. Aber immerhin konnte ich wieder nach Flensburg. Dort war ich dann gegen Mitternacht und hab nur noch heiß geduscht. Heute war ich dann nach dem Arztbesuch (hab mir nämlich tierisch was weggeholt und bin bis Ende der Woche krank geschrieben) schnell noch in der Werkstatt. Die haben das Provisorium innerhalb von 15min durch ein Originalteil ersetzt, was mich auch noch mal 30 Euro gekostet hat. Abgesehen vom dem Stress und dem nun Kranksein, bin ich mit einem blauen Auge (oder Knie ) davon gekommen. Das hätte deutlich teurer werden können. Aber, Glück gehabt!

Some require you to agree to their using a photocopy service to copy your records at a higher cost. Some medical providers require one fee for your bills and another fee for your medical records.

Just obtaining all of your medical records and bills is one of the most time consuming aspects of handling personal injury cases. And, to make matters worse, you’re still not through with your medical providers. When your treatment is complete and you have all of your medical records and bills and the first settlement offer is made to you, you’ll need to call each of your medical providers or their billing offices again to learn if you have any balance owing (and you can expect to be on the phone repeatedly and for long periods of time to learn this information) and in many cases you will need to send them another authorization form before they’ll tell you this information.

You will need to obtain a copy of the police report. This is a much simpler process. Some police departments charge between $10 to $40 for a copy, while other departments provide them to you for free. You can pick it up at the police or CHP office yourself or request one by mail with an authorization form and a check for the proper fee.

You’ll also need to obtain your wage loss information on a wage loss form from your employer if you suffered any wage losses or had to use up valuable sick time, personal time, or vacation days.

You should obtain witness statements if there is any issue as to the liability of the other driver for the accident and you should take photos of the scene if there was something wrong with the road conditions or other unusual circumstances.

You will also need to obtain a number of good photographs of your car damage, copies of the vehicle repair bills and estimates and receipts for any items damaged in your vehicle.

Here’s a secret. In California you are entitled to the cost of a replacement child seat if one was in the accident. It’s automatic. Just tell the insurance company the make and model or find out the cost for the make and model child seat and the insurance company will send you a check for a new one, even if the old one wasn’t broken. Why? It’s in the California insurance code. The insurance companies, however, don’t volunteer this information. Why? They’re in business to make money, not pay it out.

Finally, when all your treatment is done, you will need to put together a demand package with a demand letter reviewing the facts of the accident and the negligence of the other driver that made him or her at fault, a summary of your injuries and medical treatment (from your medical records), an itemization of your medical bills, a discussion of your pain and suffering and how the injuries impacted your life, a discussion of your wage loss and how you determined the amount, and finally the amount of your demand and a time limit (40 days – the time allotted under the insurance code) for the insurance company to respond with their offer. The demand letter should be a minimum of four pages in length. Some of ours have been close to twenty pages. Accompanying the demand letter should be copies of all of your medical records and bills, color copies of the car damage photos, copies of the repair bills and estimates, any wage loss documentation and any other relevant items such as witness statements, etc.

If all of this is too much work for you to accomplish (and it is a lot when you are just trying to get better, get on with your life, raise a family and still go to work to put food on the table) you may want to hire our law firm to represent you.

The reason why, in most cases you will receive more, even after an attorney’s fees and costs are taken out, is that insurance companies offer much more to an attorney handling your case than when you are attempting to settle it yourself. In addition, an experienced and reputable lawyer can also obtain reductions from your health insurance company and from any medical providers with a balance with regards to what amount has to be paid back to them out of any settlement.

When you rely on the insurance company to pay your medical bills, and then simply pay you a skimpy amount on top, you are giving them the right to determine what bills they think were “reasonable” and to obtain any reductions in the bills to save themselves money. When an attorney obtains a reduction in your bills or your health insurance company lien, the amount the attorney saves increases the amount of your net settlement.

Keep in mind that as soon as you start negotiating your claim by yourself, it’s almost impossible for an attorney to persuade the insurance company to evaluate your case in the higher category type of claim. Just to file a lawsuit in most courts alone incurs a $350.00 or larger filing fee. Depositions can cost over a thousand dollars if they are lengthy. And all such court costs come out of your settlement, even if you have a contingency fee attorney handling your case.

Sadly, many of these same lawyers take this step or let their improperly trained staff members (secretaries and clerks) force the matter to such an impasse and then file suit without properly informing the client of the negotiations that took place and led them to that point.

If you are negotiating with an insurance company yourself, there’s no need to be unpleasant. Yes, you are probably going to hear that the insurance adjuster has evaluated your case to be worth much less than you think it’s worth. But you’re forgetting that, that’s just their first offer. Communicate with the adjuster. Tell them how the injuries affected your life and tell them what you still go through today with the pain you still have. You’ll be surprised how many adjusters will actually relate to what you tell them.

Unfortunately, just as there are bad attorneys out there, there are also some lousy insurance adjusters and insurance companies to deal with as well. They’re supposed to get back to you in 40 days with an offer after you present them with your demand package. Some take longer. Some will sound unpleasant, even snotty. And once they make their first offer, it can take weeks sometimes to reach the adjuster again to make your counter-offer. Sometimes the negotiations can take months. If you want to get the most you can for your case, you need to be patient. Your job, just as it is the job of your attorney, is to get these unpleasant insurance adjusters to warm up. I ask them how the weather is, how they’re doing, if their busy, anything to get them to open up to me. You’d be surprised how far a little kindness goes.

Das System nutzt einen ARM-Prozessor und soll für seinen Besitzer nicht nur den Weg finden, sondern ihm auch erlauben, auf seinem 7-Zoll-Display (800 x 480) durchs Web zu gleiten und SMS-Nachrichten zu schreiben und zu empfangen. Außerdem kann das Gerät Musik und Audio-Bücher wiedergeben.

Das GPS verfügt sowohl über eingebauten Speicher (keine Angaben zur Größe) als auch über einen SD-Kartenslot und bietet 3G- und Wi-Fi/Bluetooth- Konnektivität.

Il 22 settembre 2009 l’Agc annunciava alle rappresentanze sindacali e ai propri dipendenti la volontà di chiudere il reparto “laminato auto” presso lo stabilimento di Cuneo. Nessuna alternativa, nessuna via di uscita. Il 31 dicembre rappresenta la fine di un reparto intero e i 67 dipendenti che per anni hanno legato la propria vita a quel reparto si trovano di fronte all’incertezza più assoluta. Cassa integrazione straordinaria, forse, mobilità; sicuramente la necessità di trovarsi un’altra occupazione in tempi brevi perché con i soldi della cassa non ci tiri avanti per tanto. Ma questo all’Agc non importa nulla, il suo scopo è quello di tagliare un reparto che, rapportato a un reparto gemello partorito dall’Agc stessa, nei paesi cosiddetti “low cost” economicamente rende meno. La sentenza è inappellabile: «Signori si chiude vogliate avvicinarvi all’uscita.possibilmente in silenzio». Ma è proprio il silenzio quello che ai lavoratori del laminato auto non sta bene, essere rottamati in silenzio proprio non va giù.

Il 29 settembre in una riunione tra le Rsu e i dipendenti dell’Agc viene deciso all’unanimità di intraprendere un’azione di lotta e protesta con un presidio permanente davanti all’ingresso dell’azienda. L’obbiettivo, chiaro fin da subito, salvare il proprio posto di lavoro e richiamare l’azienda alle proprie responsabilità, consci che se ci si trova in questa situazione è solo a causa di una gestione a dir poco miope dei vertici aziendali, non sono mai i lavoratori a far fallire un’azienda ma spesso la scarsa lungimiranza dei propri dirigenti.

E’ il 30 settembre quando si montano le prime tende, si issano le prime bandiere, la lotta per ritrovare la dignità di lavoratori è iniziata e si concluderà solo a risultati ottenuti, in breve il piccolo presidio diventa la roccaforte di tutti i 67 dipendenti del laminato auto.

Passano i giorni e si arriva al 6 ottobre, quando i vertici aziendali e le Rsu si incontrano nuovamente a Roma. In questo incontro l’unica cosa che emerge è la volontà da parte dell’azienda di chiudere il laminato auto, nulla di più. Non una sola parola spesa su come l’azienda intende sostenere i suoi dipendenti che frattanto continuano a presidiare l’ingresso in azienda, una protesta civile ma molto rumorosa.

Venerdì 9 ottobre è in programma un altro incontro tra l’azienda e le Rsu, ma i lavoratori decidono di alzare, in modo clamoroso, il tono della protesta. Quattro operai salgono sul tetto della pensilina dell’ingresso aziendale, equipaggiati alla bell’e meglio staranno lì sopra fino alla chiusura della trattativa con l’azienda. Fa freddo là sopra, come fa freddo nelle tende ai bordi della statale, ma nessuno ha intenzione di mollare, anzi.

Martedì 13 ottobre siamo al quarto incontro tra l’azienda e le parti sociali, incontro interrotto dal malore di “Ninotto” uno dei quattro sul tetto. Dopo 5 giorni e 4 notti di contestazione non regge più lo stress e la fatica. Intervengono le ambulanze del 118 e i pompieri che lo trasportano d’urgenza all’ospedale. Nonostante tutto la forza del presidio resta immutata, al punto che già la mattina successiva un altro operaio è pronto a salire sul tetto. Sono di nuovo in quattro e la lotta prosegue senza sosta.

Venerdì 16 ottobre quinto incontro azienda e parti sociali, fuori dai cancelli dell’Agc c’è il finimondo. La contestazione è al suo apice: rumorosamente, molto rumorosamente, i lavoratori fanno sentire la loro voce, sollecitano una risposta concreta. Si organizzano ulteriori mosse come lo sciopero generale dello stabilimento Agc di Cuneo e un lavoratore è pronto a iniziare lo sciopero della fame ad oltranza.

Nella notte verso le due viene redatta un’ipotesi di accordo tra le Rsu e l’azienda che verrà sottoposta, la mattina seguente, ai lavoratori. L’accordo prevede il reintegro di 12 “esuberi” entro maggio 2010, qualche prepensionamento incentivato e l’estensione della mobilità anche agli altri reparti dello stabilimento con l’obbiettivo di raggiungere 31 reintegri in totale, mentre per chi non rientra tra i fortunati resta l’incentivo all’esodo.

La stragrande maggioranza, quasi unanimità, dei presenti all’assemblea si dichiara favorevole all’accordo. I quattro sul tetto scendono finalmente dopo 9 giorni esposti alle intemperie, ma il presidio sotto resta e lì resterà fino alla firma definitiva delle parti in causa.

Questa è la dimostrazione che una lotta fatta di idee forti e convinzioni sicure porta a delle vittorie e obbliga i dirigenti di azienda a prendersi le proprie responsabilità, non si può continuare a privatizzare gli utili e a socializzare le perdite, non si può continuare a fare “spezzatino” dei lavoratori, spremerli per capitalizzare il più possibile per poi rottamarli come ferrivecchi.

La battaglia ora è finita, non possiamo parlare di vittoria perché in battaglie come questa si esce sempre sconfitti, da qualunque parte la guardi ti resta sempre un profondo senso di fallimento e di sconfitta. I mass media hanno coperto abbondantemente la nostra protesta, seguendoci praticamente passo a passo nella nostra lotta, tantissima gente ha portato la propria solidarietà al presidio. Tantissima gente comune che ci ha dimostrato concretamente di esserci vicino, con gesti che potevano sembrare piccoli, ma che per noi sono stati enormi e ci hanno rafforzato con la certezza di lottare per qualcosa di giusto.

A tutti quelli che ci hanno appoggiato va il nostro più sentito ringraziamento dal profondo del cuore.

Lo show invece inizia quando Montezemolo gira ed entra nella fascia di sabbia intorno alla curva : tutti sopra spavaldi e con il tetto scoperto, con la Ferrari che resta insabbiata a bordo pista, sotto gli spalti.

Ma un manager di Formula Uno non dovrebbe saperlo che la fascia di sabbia è appositamente pensata per far insabbiare l’auto per sicurezza nelle corse?

Solite cose viste in Italia, non si è manager per meriti, ma si è “Manager D.G.”, “Dei Gratia”, cioè per Grazia Divina…….

I’ve been meaning to write a post about Walk’s Auto Service Center in State College PA for quite a while. Here is the story of my first experience with the fine folks at Walk’s. First, some background for the story.

During the summer of 2005, while I was living in Montgomery County (PA), my car elected not to start a few times on hot days. It would turn over once or twice, then just shut down. Since my automotive skills are on par with my nun-chuck skills (I have none), I was stumped after realizing the battery was not the problem. So I took the car to an unnamed auto shop. And that day the car ran fine, the mechanic looked at it, found nothing wrong, and still managed to charge me something. My car behaved the rest of 2005 and in early 2006, during which time I moved to State College.

In the summer of 2006 the trouble started again. Turning the ignition in my car was like rolling dice. I took it to two auto shops in State College. Both of them “solved” the problem for nominal fees. The problem was not solved.

On July 27, 2006 I went grocery shopping. It was a sunny, hot summer day (in the mid-80s). When I returned to my car with my groceries it decided not to start. Thankfully I was only a quarter mile from my apartment, so I simply made three walking trips to shuttle the groceries home. As I made these treks back and forth I decided one of three things was going to happen within the next two days:

A. I will destroy my car with a sledgehammer. While it would have been very gratifying, and good for the soul, it also would have been terribly impractical. Plus, aside from this random petulance my car had served me well.

B. I will sell my car and get a new one. This was tempting and a real option.

C. I will get my car fixed. The most practical option, and my first choice. However, I had attempted this option three times already and had nothing to show for it but an ill car and bills.

I decided to try option C. I looked up towing companies and found Walk’s Auto listed. They came, picked up my car, and hauled it back to their location. I described the symptoms to a mechanic, he promised to call me as soon as he had a diagnosis.

I got a phone call a couple of hours later. Diagnosis: My car was experiencing periodic failure of the PCM relay.

I’ll admit, I had little faith that the problem was solved. I’d been given diagnoses by three different mechanics in the past year, and all three of those were not accurate. I think I had a right to be skeptical.

My car was repaired and ready to go the following morning. And it was genuinely repaired. Problem solved.

And that is the story of how I became a fan of Walk’s Auto.

Their prices aren’t the lowest in town but they are fair. I’d rather pay a bit more for solid work from a mechanic that I trust than a bargain rate somewhere else. Plus they have online coupons available for many services, and they offer a discount to PSU students for labor costs.

In the past three years I’ve had two instances of extraordinary service from Walk’s in addition to The Diagnosis. On one occasion a veteran mechanic saved me a considerable amount of money by replacing a seal on a part I thought I’d have to replace (this is a story in itself). On another occasion a mechanic stayed late at the shop to finish a few minor details of my car’s inspection because he had promised I could pick up my car that evening.

Les rémois(es) ont assisté à une belle mascarade de la municipalité le mois dernier !

Le mois d’octobre a été très riche en rebondissements faisant état d’une équipe municipale qui dépense sans compter l’argent des rémois(es) qui se serrent encore et toujours la ceinture. Madame Hazan et ses adjoints se livrent à des dépenses exorbitantes de l’argent public à l’image de ces exemples:

Début octobre, lors du Conseil Municipal, la municipalité a voté (sans l’opposition) en faveur d’une subvention à hauteur de 160 000€ pour l’association Destination Reims, avançant la justification de vouloir améliorer l’accueil touristique et des nouveaux arrivants via internet et la création d’un site.

Cette subvention ne devrait absolument pas avoir lieu dans la mesure où ce projet fait doublon avec ce que fait l’Office de Tourisme, qui, rappelons-le, s’est vu retirer 120 000€ de subventions.

A cette subvention s’ajoute la création d’un poste en charge de ce projet dont la mission et le profil restent flous. On évoquait le fait que ce soit l’épouse du Directeur de Cabinet de Madame Hazan qui serait l’heureuse élue pour ce poste, dont on ne connait ni le montant du salaire, ni les avantages en nature qui seront perçus…

On a eu ensuite à faire au raté fulgurant de l’auto-partage qui est devenu un vrai fiasco financier.

L’auto-partage, cette idée inspirée du dispositif “Vélib’” que l’on trouve dans la capitale parisienne, était adaptée aux véhicules dans la Cité des Sacres.

Sans aucun appel à la concurrence, Adeline Hazan et son équipe ont décidé de faire porter le projet par Champagne Parc Auto (CPA), structure qui gère les parkings publics de la ville de Reims dont le président n’est autre que Stéphane Joly, également adjoint à Madame la Maire. Cette manœuvre comportant un risque juridique lié au fait que l’entreprise CPA n’ait pas été soumise à la concurrence d’autres entreprises, a du contraindre la municipalité d’abandonner le projet au bout de 6 mois.

Résultat: un dédit de plus de 100 000€ ! Les véhicules loués et n’ayant pas roulé ont dus être rendus au concessionnaire pour un coût de près de 28 000€, s’ajoutant la facture à régler au cabinet de recrutement et les assurances avoisinant les 56 000€ !

En soi, ce projet était véritablement une bonne idée, qui aurait pu permettre de baisser le taux de pollution dans notre cité par exemple, mais il aurait fallu une municipalité vigilante et sérieuse, qui sache emmener un projet en ayant à l’esprit l’intérêt général.

Il est un mot qui me vient à l’esprit après cette mascarade scandaleuse à laquelle s’est livrée la municipalité de Reims durant le mois qui vient de s’écouler : gaspillage.

Probabil că cei de la General Motors au comunicat telepatic cu ea, pentru că în prima jumătate a anului 2010 vor să lanseze remix-ul Chevrolet-ului Camaro, (de care nici nu mai are rost să spunem că are un motor de 6 litri şi cam 400 de cai), după cum aflăm de pe site-ul www.seriouswheels.com. Dar nu doar culoarea impresionează…

Uită-te la el: vorbeşte cu tine! Este ca o fiară gata să se dezlănţuie. Chiar şi pe loc repaus, exprimă dinamism şi mişcare. Mai mult decât atât, exprimă putere, împachetată sub forma unui muscle-car american veritabil, cu pasajele roţilor pronunţate şi nervuri de-alungul capotei. Krise? Wer hält sich daran?

Alle reden immer noch von der Wirtschaftskrise. Keiner mag angeblich so richtig mit dem Geld rausrücken. Alle drehen den Penny – den Cent – zweimal um und jammern “wie teuer alles bloß geworden ist”. Sogar Mitgliedschaften im Sportverein (9 Euro im Monat) werden gekündigt – weil man es sich nicht mehr leisten kann…

Andererseits: Schaut man sich in teuren Fitness-Studios, bei MC Donald, Burger King, in Backerien oder in Cafés und take-away Shops für Kaffee, Kuchen, Fast-Finger-Food um: Da steppt der Bär, da wird getrunken, gemampft und weggetragen, was die Hände tragen können. Und das bei Höchstpreisen, da wird mir schlecht, wenn ich Preis-Leistung, Preis -Menge, geschweige denn Preis-Nährwert ins verhältnis setzt – von den Kalorien mal abgesehen.

Vor einem Wochenende mit Feiertag mag ich schon gar nicht mehr einkaufen gehen… man hat in den Supermärkten das Gefühl, am nächsten Tag bricht der dritte Weltkrieg aus und es gibt nichts mehr zu kaufen. Beladen bis zum Rausfallen sind die Einkaufswagen. Ich frage mich: Hab’ ich was verpasst? Wo ist da der Zusammenhang?

Und dann das Thema Benzinpreise: Alle schimpfen, meckern … und fahren doch weiter Auto. niemals haben wir uns über wochen und monate mit einem thema, also mit einem konzern, so sehr beschäftigen müssen.

und nun bleibt alles beim alten.

es ist ein scherz.

gewiss, gewiss, man müsste die zahl der pressemeldungen mal zählen, die das alles erbracht hat.

der mögliche verkauf an magna.

dann die tausenden von besuche in den USA.

abend für abend haben wir uns das anhörensehen müssen, im fernsehen, oder im radio. oder wo.

und nun behält GM die firma OPEL selbst.

es ist ein wahnsinn.

ich denke, es war eine arbeitsbeschaffungsmaßnahme für die medien.

gewiss: heute dürfen sie wieder vor den werkstoren von rüsselsheim oder kaiserslautern oder so berichten. immer stehen die reporter vor einem OPEL-standort … und dann berichten sie von dort.

und das fiese ist: die angst um die standorte und um die arbeitsplätze ist jetzt wieder größer als jemals zuvor.

nicht nur in deutschland – man will ja die standorte permanent alle jeweils gegeneinander ausspielen.

nun kann herr rüttgers wieder in die USA fliegen. und flehen.

ja, das kann er: es ist doch wundervoll. jetzt werden auch die politiker wieder beschäftigt. (die arbeitsplätze, die bei OPEL verlorengehen, entstehen bei den medien und in der politik neu. das ist marktwirtschaft in höchster vollendung!)

alles ist eine große blase – und am ende sind wir wieder am anfang.

GM könnte doch QUELLE übernehmen !!! na, das wäre doch was!

oder MÄRKLIN könnte aus dem konkurs heraus den ganzen GM-konzern übernehmen !!!!

das wäre auch toll.

du siehst, die welt hat keinerlei sinn.

Vrouwenversie:

Afgelopen week was het weer zo ver. Mijn auto moest APK gekeurd worden. Nou is dat racemonster van mij al een beetje bejaard aan het worden, dus is het iedere keer weer spannend of er iets aan ontdekt zal worden wat de ziektekosten zo hoog laat oplopen dat het niet meer rendabel is de auto te reanimeren.

Zo heeft Twingo afgelopen jaar nog een open hart operatie moeten ondergaan! :| Heel het motorblok heeft eruit gelegen. Het leek er zelfs op dat Twingo nooit meer uit zijn coma zou ontwaken en zijn enige ritje nog naar de autobegraafplaats zou zijn! Maar gelukkig werd dit keer geconstateerd dat Twingo weer een jong en gezond hart heeft en zo kwam het dat we met een gerust gevoel, maar wel met een nieuwe doktersafspraak voor de volgende jaarlijkse controle, op huis aangingen. Uiteraard niet voordat ik ‘m nog eens extra vertroeteld had met een wasbeurt en even flink onder handen heb genomen met een zachte poetsdoek. Ow wat voelde Twingo zich lekker! Hij kwispelde ervan!

Ook de binnenkant eens even lekker schoongemaakt. In de garage dragen ze namelijk geen handschoenen, wat vaak resulteert in vage zwarte vegen op het stuur en interieur (hoe durven ze!) In een garage van een duur automerk zijn ze wat voorzichtiger, denk ik. Speciaal daarom laat ik de APK-keuring in een BMW-garage verrichten. Soms krijgt Twingo daar alleen een beetje kapsones van, maar dat gaat na een paar dagen wel weer over.

Thuis in de straat heb ik ‘m het mooiste plekkie van de straat gegeven. Na een kusje op het stuur leek zelfs het eekhoorntje op de zijkant te knipogen… Na zulke goede zorgen ben ik er zeker van dat Twingo me de aankomende winter niet in de kou zal laten staan!

Mannenversie:

De Twingo van mijn vriendin moest APK gekeurd worden. Rond die tijd wordt ze (mijn vriendin dan) altijd een beetje onrustig. Heeft denk ik met vorig jaar te maken. Die Twingo van d’r had een lekke koppakking. Dan rijdt ie niet meer hè! Mijn oplossing was om vast naar een nieuwe auto te gaan kijken, maar ik geloof niet dat ze die oplossing erg op prijs stelde. ‘Een nieuwe auto is geen Twingo’, zei ze. Die snapte ik niet, dan kijk je toch naar een nieuwe Twingo? Zijn trouwens wel leuke bakkies voor die vrouwen vind ik. Gelukkig voor haar hebben ze dat bakkie weer helemaal opgelapt. Kan ze er weer mee over de weg stuiteren!

Maar goed, waar was ik. O ja ze was zenuwachtig. Hoeft ze niet te zijn ,want ze brengt haar auto naar een BMW garage. Daar heb je het beste van het beste spul natuurlijk! Dat ze nu ook per se naar een BMW garage wil heeft met mijn auto te maken. Alhoewel je een Twingo en een BMW natuurlijk nooit kunt vergelijken. Maar eerlijk is eerlijk, ze zijn daar wel goed.

Jammer alleen dat mijn vriendin de eerste dagen dan een beetje grootheidswaanzin heeft als ze in haar auto rijdt. Als ze parkeert draait ze in of ze in een 7-serie rijdt en als ze links rijdt op de snelweg moet iedereen voor haar opzij alsof ze de PK van een M5 onder d’r kont heeft zitten. Helaas gaat die Twingo een beetje loeien bij de 130 en trillen je handen bijna van het stuur, wat haar gelukkig snel weer met 4 wielen terug op aarde brengt.

Er was ook dit keer natuurlijk niks aan de hand met die Twingo. Datum neergezet voor volgend jaar en hoppa, weer op huis aan… dacht ik. Die Twingo moest eerst nog een was- en poetsbeurt vond mevrouw. Dat schroothoopje krijgt bijna nog meer aandacht dan ik! En dan zeggen ze dat mannen erg zijn met hun auto’s! Toen ze eenmaal klaar was hoorde ik haar zeggen: ‘kijk nou! Hij kwispelt!’. Ik zal maar niet zeggen dat ze tijdens het stofzuigen tegen het knopje van de achterruitenwisser heeft gestoten. Kwispelen… het is geen hond hoor!

Thuis aangekomen moest ze ‘m nog per se op mijn parkeerplaats parkeren ook. En voordat ze uitstapt nog even een aai en een kus op het stuur, typisch vrouwen he…

Nu maar hopen dattie nog wil starten straks met de vrieskou! Ach… ik laat haar maar gaan, hij ziet er best schattig uit die Twingo en voorlopig rijdt ie nog… maar het blijft natuurlijk wel een auto.

Asta pentru ca mi-au spart masina. Nu cred ca am formulata corect, la plural, cred ca a fost mai degraba un singur hot. Mi-a fost furat radioul cu CD player Blaupunkt de prima echipare de pe Logan. In plina zi, in plina strada. Ei bine, cine ar fi crezut ca cineva ar fi furat janghina aia de radio de pe janghina aia de masina? Eu unul nu, asa ca nu m-am obosit sa scot fata de la radio, pentru ca oricum conectorii sunt prosti si s-ar fi stricat. Acum, cand stau sa ma gandesc, sigur ar fi fost mai rentabil sa scot fata de la radio si sa se fi stricat radioul, caci m-ar fi costat mai putin, decat sa fure radioul si sa imi forteze usa. Dar cat de prost sa fii sa furi asa ceva? Daca era vreun sistem misto, ceva ca lumea, da, dar asa? De ce?

Vestea buna e ca nu mi-a spart geamu, ci doar mi-a fortat butucul de la usa. Vestea proasta e ca ma costa vreo 4-500 de lei sa repar butucul. Radio nu cred ca o sa imi iau, sau nu prea curand.

O a doua concluzie, Daciile au un sistem foarte prost de incuietori. Totusi, o intrebare merita pusa: unde e siguranta si increderea? Avem doua politii, una comunitara si una dracu s-o mai ia cum se cheama! Ce fac, unde sunt, de atatea masini sunt sparte si ei nu stiu si nu vad nimic!?

Drivers should be extremely alert for deer while driving in November, which is peak mating season for deer and a time when a large number of deer claims occur.

According to an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety study, insurance claims for animal collisions are nearly 3 times higher during November than the typical month earlier in the year.

However, by being aware of the risks and following precautionary measures, you can reduce the likelihood of colliding with a deer.

Know the facts

Deer claims are more likely to occur in the early morning or evening hours. In fact, 50 percent of deer claims occur between 5 p.m. and midnight, and another 20 percent of claims occur between 5 a.m. and 8 a.m.
Deer aren’t just found on rural roads near wooded areas, many deer crashes occur on busy highways near cities.
Deer often move in groups. If you see one, there are likely more in the vicinity.

Be cautious

Stay alert, awake and sober.
Always wear your seatbelt and drive at a safe, sensible speed for conditions.
When driving at night, use high-beam headlights when there is no opposing traffic. High-beam headlights will not necessarily frighten a deer, so do not rely on the high beams to deter deer, but rather rely on the lights to better illuminate the animal.
Do not rely exclusively on devices such as deer whistles, deer fences and reflectors to deter deer.

When deer are near, be careful

Deer are unpredictable, especially when faced with glaring headlights, blowing horns and fast-moving vehicles. They often dart into traffic. Assume nothing, slow down and blow your horn to urge the deer to leave the road.
If the deer stays on the road, stop, put on your hazard lights and wait for the deer to leave the roadway. Do not try to go around the deer while it is on the road.
Brake firmly when you notice a deer in or near your path, but stay in your lane. Many serious crashes occur when drivers swerve to avoid a deer and hit another vehicle or lose control of their cars.
If you do strike a deer, and are uncertain whether or not the deer is dead, then keep your distance, as this is an injured, wild animal with sharp hooves that can inflict injuries. If the deer is blocking the roadway and poses a danger to other motorists, you should report the incident to the Game Commission or a local law enforcement agency.

La Smart mangia le lampadine oppure è rogna?

Agganciandomi al mio precedente post dedicato alle lampadine a luce bianca, prendo atto che queste ultime sono durate troppo poco per poterci ragionare su ulteriormente.

Resta il fatto che il problema delle lampadine consumate in maniera esagerata c’è, per cui copio qui parte del post precedente in modo da ripartire con l’analisi delle nuove lampadine che monterò nei prossimi giorni sulla Smart, ovvero la Daytime della Bosch e vediamo se, in questo caso, il gioco vale la candela e si conferma il vecchio detto che chi più spende, meno spende.

23.10.2009: Oggi è bruciata una delle lampadine. In pratica è durata meno di 4 mesi; un pò poco, secondo me. Dopo l’esperienza allucinante dell’ultimo cambio lampadina, mi sono recato dal meccanico di fiducia ed abbiamo approfondito un poco il discorso lampadine.

E’ chiaro che l’uso diurno delle lampadine provoca un maggior consumo di lampadine che lavorano il doppio rispetto a prima, ma è anche vero che vi possono essere delle concause, per questa breve durata.

Per quanto riguarda la Smart nello specifico, essendo un’auto piuttosto rigida, va da sè che le vibrazioni sono maggiori e possono causare la rottura di un filamento già stressato (ovvero fragile) a causa del maggior tempo di accensione e, in seconda battuta, possono esserci modelli che hanno un’errata calibratura/progettazione dell’impianto elettrico, per cui la moria di lampadine è superiore al previsto.

Circa questi problemi degli impianti elettrici ne avevo letto tempo fa su Quattroruote; se ben ricordo si diceva che tra l’altro l’ingresso massiccio dell’elettronica aumenta i consumi di energia che spesso sono calibrati con troppa precisione e possono esserci sbalzi di tensione.

Ma torniamo a noi. Avevo tre scelte davanti a me. 1) La lampadina classica 2) Quella attuale a luce bianca che non incrementa la portata del fascio di luce, ma emette luce bianca 3) Adottare una lampadina Daytime (siamo italiani, diciamo Luce diurna ) che però ha un costo doppio a quella normale (Pos. 1).

Secondo la Bosch, queste lampadine oltre a garantire il 10% di potenza in più, assicurano il mantenimento degli intervalli di sostituzione nonostante l’utilizzo anche diurno. Vedremo…

Il meccanico, onestamente, mi diceva che fino ad ora nessun cliente, di fronte al prezzo doppio, accettava di montarle, salvo lamentarsi della scarsa durata di quelle standard, per cui con una strizzata d’occhio mi diceva che se volevo fare da collaudatore, sarebbe stato contento anche lui.

Fortuna vuole che mentre aspettavo che cercasse i prezzi delle lampadine, notassi che è in corso una promozione Bosch su spazzole tergicristalli e lampadine, con uno sconto del 30%; fatto un rapido conto, le lampadine a lunga durata le avrei pagate come quelle a luce bianca, per cui perchè non provarle?

E per non sbagliare, al 27 ottobre è morta anche la seconda lampadina… insomma, hanno avuto una vita di poco superiore ai 3 mesi.

Questa lampadina è così poco richiesta che il meccanico ha delle difficoltà a reperirle; erano state promesse per il 23 ottobre, poi per il 26 ed ancora non sono arrivate, per cui andrò a montarle (spero) al 30 ottobre.

Seguiranno aggiornamenti, spero in là con il tempo….

Another championship title for the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR

A tailor-made finale for Richard Westbrook. Claiming victory in Belgium’s Zolder at the wheel of a Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, the Briton secured the FIA GT Championship GT2 class drivers’ title to continue the streak of 911 successes this year. With the 911 GT3 RSR, Porsche pilots won the GT2 championship titles in the American Le Mans Series, the Le Mans Series, as well as other championships. Moreover, the 450 hp racer from Weissach was celebrated as the winning car at the prestigious Nürburgring 24 hour race in 2009.

“We can look back on a highly successful year with the 911,” said a satisfied Hartmut Kristen, head of motorsport at Porsche. “Again the 911 GT3 RSR proved to be the most successful GT race car in the world. Congratulations to Richard Westbrook and the Belgian Prospeed team who made this feat possible.”

“This is the most important title of my career,” said a delighted Richard Westbrook. The Briton and his teammate, the French Porsche works driver Emmanuel Collard, had dominated the FIA GT Championship season. With two victories to open their campaign, they planted themselves at the head of the championship standings, which they only lost prior to the finale to the strongest Ferrari team. The pair travelled to Zolder with a three-point gap to the leader, where the Belgian top squad, Prospeed Competition, put together a clever strategy with the support of Porsche. The two title candidates manned different cars to increase their championship chances. Twenty-one-year-old Porsche Junior Marco Holzer joined Richard Westbrook as his new teammate. And the trick worked. Westbrook and Holzer dominated the two-hour final in the fiercely contested and highly competitive GT2 class. The young German performed equally as well as the experienced Briton – Westbrook was the champion of the Porsche Supercup in 2006 and 2007. “Marco did a super job,” praised 34-year-old Westbrook. It was with a touch of regret that Emmanuel Collard congratulated his English teammate on his title win. Together with Porsche Junior Martin Ragginger (Austria), Collard finished the race sixth at the wheel of the 911 fielded by the Italian Brixia Racing team to claim third overall in the championship.

Līdz ar pirmajām automašīnas problēmām piereģistrējos pašmāju Volvo automašīnu lietotāju forumā un kādā ārzemju analogā. Uzreiz jāsaka, ka abu forumu funkcijas un sadaļas ir līdzīgas, bet atšķiras padomu un pamācību došanas maniere.

Ja par kādu specifisku problēmu ieraksta Latvijas Volvo forumā, tad ir skaidrs, ka šī diskusija izraisīs plašu apmeklētību, bet kādu konkrētu informāciju izspiest no atbildēm būs grūti, jo katrs “zinošais” lietotājs cenšas lobēt tieši savu Volvo “kantori”. Īpaši uzmācīga ir MMr (Mūsa motors) reklamēšana un piesaukšana ikvienas problēmas risināšanai. As expected, Rossi becomes world champs after finishing third behind Stoner and Pedrosa in wet condition. I was there with thousand of MotoGP fans and I must say deja vu after 10 years absence. The atmosfere is good and cheerful with many booths from Kawasaki, KTM, Petronas, Yamaha, Suzuki and others.

Many cheer our local boys in 125cc Elly and Zulfahmi with their Aprilia and Yamaha. They deserve a better chance if more concerted effort were done to groom world class racer. I think Tony Fernandes effort in Lotus F1 team is a huge morale boost to local motorsport industry as people like him is the hero in getting things done like what he did to AirAsia.

OK, let’s watch smartphone quality video I took and hear motogp engine noise. It also shows Rossi overtook Lorenzo at turn 9.

These are the photos around grandstand and ticket booth where they implemented new web based system which took at least ONE minute to issue even one ticket. Can I complain? Grrrr……….

GTA Chinatown Wars

So, ich habe mir nun auch das neue Grand Theft Auto Chinatown Wars besorgt um zu sehen was Rockstar Games da fabriziert hat und ich muss sagen, ich bin relativ positiv überrascht.

Zu beginn sitz man in einen Flugzeug und bekommt ein Einblick ins Geschehen und die wichtigsten Informationen zur Steuerung etc. werden erklärt. Besonders die neue Art Autos zu knacken trifft bei mir auf begeisterung. Man muss mit hilfe das D-Pads das Schloss knacken oder bei einigen anderen Autos mit R und L die Zündkabel aneinander halten.

Auch die Grafik ist auf den ersten Blick gut ausgearbeitet. Das besondere an GTA Chinatown Wars ist das man eine halb-draufsicht hat und daher das meinst von oben sieht.

Die Zwischensequenzen wurden nun mit einer art Comics dargestellt. Gesprochen wird in den Spiel auch nicht viel da alles diesmal als Untertitel eingeblendet wird.

Natürlich kann man auch bei diesem GTA wieder rasante Polizeiverfolgungen herbeiführen oder ein Massaker anrichten.

Auch Bürgerwehr kann man wieder leisten und sich etwas Geld dazu verdienen. Die Bürgerwehr wird z.b in einen Polizeiauto durch den Polizeicomputer angenommen. Man hat dort eine kleine Auswahl an Missionen. Auch Waffen gibt es wieder zur genüge und das “rumballern” macht in diesen GTA genauso Spaß wie in den anderen.

Das Nachtleben wurde dort auch ausgearbeitet, alle Autos haben Licht und es gibt auch Clubs. Im großen und ganzen ein sehr attraktives Spiel.

Ich ging vorbei an dem Getränkemarkt, vorbei an der Kneipe aus der es immer nach schalem Bier roch und arme, zwielichtige Gestalten meist aus dem Dunkeln der Kneipe nach draußen blickten. Kurz schoss mir ein Schreckgedanke durch den Kopf: “Werd ich auch bald da drin sitzen und mein Leben auf der Straße vorbei ziehen sehen?“

Ich ging hastig weiter, den Gedanken augenblicklich verdrängend und wies meine Augen an nach meinem Auto Ausschau zu halten. Da stand es auch schon, einige Meter vor mir, eingeparkt wie sollte es auch sonst sein in diesem Stadtteil.

Ich hatte tausend wirre, undefinierte Gedanken in meinen Kopf. Spürte ferner zu meinem bestehenden Empfinden der Erleichterung, ein neues, sich anschleichendes Gefühl.

Den Autoschlüssel hielt ich bereits in der Hand als ich vor meiner Fahrertür stand. Ich besitze noch eines der älteren Modele ohne Zentralverriegelung und Öffnung per Knopfdruck. Oldshool eben und schon seit Jahren fahrtüchtig und sehr zuverlässig.

Ein neueres Auto brauche ich auch gar nicht und abgesehen davon wird ein neues in nächster Zeit finanziell nicht drin sein. Da war es wieder! Der verdrängte Gedanke von vorhin an der Kneipe, ja es war eindeutig Angst die in mir hoch kroch. Ich spürte es deutlich, die Angst über meine Zukunft breitete sich bleiern in mir aus, während ich auf meinem Autositz platz nahm.

Si è aperto questa mattina per la prima giornata stampa il quarantunesimo Motor Show di Tokyo, in tono dimesso. L’assenza delle maggiori Case europee, americane e persino coreane si sente anche in termini visivi. Nonostante gli sforzi degli organizzatori di riempire gli spazi vuoti con gli stand dei componentisti e mettendo assieme auto e moto, come nel caso della Honda e della Suzuki, il clima è quello di una rassegna regionale, molto lontano dagli standard di Salone internazionale a cui Tokyo ci aveva sempre abituati.

Nonostante ciò i costruttori giapponesi hanno presentato novità importanti e soprattutto hanno chiarito le loro posizioni relative nella corsa al futuro. La spaccatura è netta tra chi ha già oggi le tecnologie per mettere sul mercato entro un paio d’anni automobili elettriche o ibride plug-in e chi no. Le danze le apre la Nissan presentando la Leaf, prima vera elettrica ad arrivare sui mercati mondiali – ancora prima delle vetture della consociata Renault – prenotabile dalla primavera in Giappone e negli Usa, dall’estate in Europa e in arrivo fisicamente nelle concessionarie entro la fine del 2010.

Subito dietro ci sono Toyota e Honda, entrambe forti dell’esperienza nel settore delle ibride, e ora pronte a estenderla alle elettriche pure, anche se “dato l’attuale stato dell’arte nello sviluppo delle batterie”, dicono alla Honda, “appare per ora più saggio puntare a una diffusione di massa della tecnologia ibrida”. Il traguardo per l’elettrica pura, sia per Honda sia per Toyota, è tra il 2012 e il 2013.

Chi, invece, è troppo indietro in questo campo, come Mazda e come Daihatsu (questa è sì controllata da Toyota, ma per ora la tecnologia ibrido-elettrica resta riservata alla Casa madre), spingono sui motori tradizionali. Mazda ha scelto il palcoscenico di Tokyo per presentare i motori di nuova generazione denominati Sky. Per adesso sono quasi pronti un due litri a benzina e uno diesel, in grado di garantire un risparmio nei consumi, rispettivamente, del 15 e del 20% a confronto con le equivalenti versioni 2.0 a benzina e 2.2 a gasolio che attualmente equipaggiano i modelli medio-grandi di Mazda. L’unità a benzina raggiunge questo risultato sopratutto grazie all’iniezione diretta, al turbo e alla fasatura variabile, mentre il diesel è accoppiato a una nuova trasmissione automatica a sei marce. Il benzina sarà sul mercato nel 2011, il diesel nel 2012.

Daihatsu ha presentato in anteprima mondiale due motori a benzina piccoli, un tre cilindri di 660 cm3 e un due cilindri della medesima cubatura, che promettono consumi ultraridotti. Il tre cilindri, montato su un’auto come la concept car e:S (non si sa ancora quando arriverà la versione di serie), una sorta di iQ lievemente più lunga – tre metri e dieci centimetri – e del peso di soli 700 kg, garantirebbe la percorrenza di trenta km con un litro di benzina, secondo quanto dichiara la Daihatsu.

Il due cilindri, poi, sarebbe in grado di regalare consumi del 30% inferiori rispetto a un’auto media con sistema ibrido. Ma non si parla di metterlo sul mercato prima di due-tre anni. Un po’ tardi se si pensa che il bicilindrico di Fiat è pronto a debuttare nel 2010.

“L’industria giapponese sta vivendo un momento difficile”, ha confidato a “Quattroruote” Garett Carr, vice direttore della comunicazione di Mazda, un americano trasferitosi a Hiroshima, “preoccupati da un mercato domestico che stenta a riprendere quota nonostante gli stimoli pubblici e accerchiati dalla sempre maggiore intraprendenza di competitori asiatici, come i coreani da una parte e i cinesi dall’altra, i giapponesi stanno cercando di trovare, o ritrovare, una loro strada”. Questa difficoltà – se si eccettua la determinazione mostrata da Nissan con il suo piano elettrico – a questa edizione del Salone di Tokyo si avverte in pieno.

Un Salone piccolo piccolo, nemmeno parente dell’esposizione cui ci si era abituati fino a due anni fa, si è aperto questa mattina agli occhi dei curiosi in cerca di emozioni. Il boicottaggio di tutte la Case straniere ha spento gli entusiasmi e quella che era una distesa di stand si è ritrovata con appena due padiglioni in buona parte occupati da produttori di accessori e da fabbricanti di moto.

Nemmeno la tradizionale parata di prototipi al limite della follia ha tenuto la scena, dove le poche novità si sono confuse in una marea di proposte legate all’ambiente come moda comanda; d’altronde il 41° Tokyo Motor Show si è aperto all’insegna di “una modo di guidare divertente per noi, un modo di guidare pulito per il globo”.

Ha quindi avviato i fuochi il grande capo di Nissan e Renault, Carlos Ghosn, annunciando: “La grande corsa ai veicoli a emissioni zero è ufficialmente partita, vedremo chi la vincerà”, lasciando intendere che in Nissan si sentono saldamente in pole position. Gli ha risposto con piglio Akio Toyoda, presidente della Toyota, con tutta una serie di proclami tra i quali: “L’evoluzione dei nostri veicoli ibridi ha compiuto passi da gigante. Oggi possono percorrere molta strada anche solo in modalità elettrica al punto che possiamo considerarli auto metà elettriche”.

Poi Toyoda è andato oltre: “Al momento soltanto le auto ibride sono in grado di assicurare bassi consumi a basso costo mantenendo intatte le caratteristiche di piacere di guida delle automobili di alto livello”. E ha infine concluso così: “Per il futuro, per la terra in cui viviamo, è venuto il momento di reinventare completamente l’automobile. Durante gli scorsi 100 anni l’automobile ha portato prosperità per la vita della gente e per l’intera società. Adesso deve farsi carico di qualcosa di più del sogno, deve preoccuparsi del nostro domani. Noi saremo in prima fila per riuscirci”.

Intanto, in uno stand vicino, faceva bella mostra la bicicletta ibrida della Yamaha: si pedala e contemporaneamente si ricarica un motorino elettrico che sarà di prezioso aiuto nei tratti in salita o se si deve accelerare, una sorta di kers-de-poveri per la F.1 a pedali. Non è l’attrazione regina del Salone, ma ne è un po’ il simbolo. Emissioni zero, rumore zero, emozioni zero.

(Sebbene non sia un ciclista, ritengo potrebbe esserci Emozione nel pedalare in un ambiente con emissioni zero, rumore zero; non si può, anche su Quattroruote parlare di ecologia e bassi consumi, creare una sezione Eco, spingere il Programma Eco 10×10 e poi scivolare sul luogo comune che abbina l’emozione al rombo di un motore 12 cilindri. Anche questo è emozione, certo, ma resta il fatto che l’altro giorno il “non sentire” il rumore di una Prius in partenza, mi abbia Emozionato. Sarò fatto male io? Pao)

Stavamo insieme solo da due anni! Dopo un incidente disastroso che ha tagliato in due la mia auto: uno squinternato è passato col rosso al semaforo mentre io stavo partendo col verde. BOOOOOOOOOOM! Disastro. Poi ne trovi un’altra, cercando a destra e sinistra, in rete, sotto e sopra facendo tutti gli scongiuri. E solo dopo due anni di convivenza e cure costose, perchè le ruote costano più delle tue scarpe, i circuiti,poi, meglio non parlarne e si rovinano…non come te che sgobbi per mantenerne assicurazione,carburante e tutto il resto.Dunque …capita che uno scenda, guardi verso il luogo in cui aveva parcheggiato e…non trovi più la sua auto.

Capita che uno dica:- ma… sarà stato mio figlio a spostarla…-Allora risale in casa e chiede al figlio ma. No.Non è accaduto così. Dunque la facile deduzione è:-Me l’hanno rubata.-

Sì, l’hanno rubata e devi iniziare un itinerario di telefonate e spostamenti che, ora, ora che sei a piedi, non è agevole fare.E poi tutto cambia.Sei a piedi e vedi tutto dall’altezza che hai. Ora, comunque, sei raso terra. Eppure si tratta solo di una macchina,qualcosa che non ha “troppo valore” e ne ha tanto se pensi a tutto quello che costa mantenerla e…ti rendi conto che è stato tutto per niente. Così decido di non comprarmi mai più auto e di andare a piedi. Questa volta mi sono proprio rotta. Due anni fa un incidente mi ha costretto a comprare una auto nuova,ora il furto e poi? Cosa potrebbe succedere ancora? Basta.Taglio definitivo,nemmeno una bicicletta, rubano a rotta di collo anche le bici. A piedi allora, tassativamente a piedi.

heute hatten wir anläßlich Junior´s Geburtstag Besuch zum Kaffeeklatsch.

Meine Mam hat extra eine Torte gemacht.

Da unser Sohn auf Marzipan und Auto´s steht hat sie sich etwas ganz besonderes einfallen lassen.

Die Torte sieht nicht nur “sündig” aus – sie schmeckte auch so ;o)

Aber natürlich steckten nicht nur Kalorien in der Torte. Sondern auch die Liebe zum Detail.

Leider haben wir die Torte nicht ganz geschaft.

Da werden sich meine Kolleginen im Büro sehr freuen

iPhone como control remoto.... de un auto!

En Alemania, un grupo de científicos de la Berlin’s Free University están desarrollando desde el 2007 una aplicación para iPhone OS que permite controlar un automóvil a distancia. Gracias a diferentes tecnologías, wi-fi, GPS, sensores láser 3D, cámaras de video y un sistema de conducción por cables (que permiten presionar los pedales y girar el volante), es posible comandar un auto con suma facilidad. Aprovechando el acelerómetro del iPhone podemos hacer girar el volante y así direccionar el vehículo. Uno de los puntos más interestantes, es que podemos ver en la pantalla de iPhone hacia dónde se dirige el auto gracias la cámara colocada al frente del mismo. Muy James Bond no?…

Los desarrolladores de esta interesante aplicación llamada “iDrive” tienen una web explicando los avances del proyecto, pueden revisarla aquí.

Die Ingenieure hatten sich damals Bienen zum Vorbild genommen, die in dieser Hinsicht ebenfalls recht geschickt sind. Heuer gibt es mit dem EPORO nun wieder ein neues Roboterfahrzeug, das Anleihen beim Tierreich nimmt.

Als Modell diente diesmal die Fähigkeit von Fischen, sich gemeinsam in einem dichten Schwarm zu bewegen, ohne sich gegenseitig zu behindern oder gar zu touchieren. EPORO gelingt das aufgrund eines Lasersensors, der den Abstand zu Hindernissen ausmisst und mit Hilfe von Kommunikationstechnologie. Die kleinen Maschinen sind nämlich untereinander vernetzt und können Daten über ihre eigene Position miteinander austauschen…

Was das bringt? Langfristig wohl Erkenntnisse, um die Sicherheit von Autos zu erhöhen. Mehrere EPOROS können schon jetzt eine Reisegruppe bilden, die zusammen ein Ziel ansteuert, ohne das dieses Unterfangen wie eine schreckliche Parodie auf ein Autodrom wirkt. Nissan erforscht so Strategien zur Kollisionsvermeidung, um im Straßenverkehr Unfälle seltener zu machen. Gleichzeitig sollen diese Technologien laut Pressemitteilung auch dafür eingesetzt werden, um die Bewegungseffizienz einer Gruppe von Fahrzeugen zu steigern und so letztlich den Verkehrsfluss zu optimieren. Wieviel die EPOROS dazu beitragen können, das weiß ich wirklich nicht, aber bei dem Aussehen dürften sie zumindest Frauenherzen höherschlagen lassen *g*.

MONTEREY, Calif.- Joerg Bergmeister (Germany) and Patrick Long (USA) capped a successful 2009 American Le Mans Series season by winning their sixth race of the season, capturing the ALMS GT2 drivers, manufacturers, and team championships, as well as helping Porsche to earn its 100th class win in the American Le Mans Series today in the four-hour endurance event for the Monterey Sports Car Championships at Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway.

Bergmeister, who took over the driving chores from Long for the final stint in his #45 Flying Lizard Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, ran nose-to-tail with the #3 Corvette’s Jan Magnussen for the lead during the last 20 minutes of the race, holding off the more powerful Corvette despite a vibration from a flat-spotted tire. Then, with three laps to go, the Corvette passed the Porsche, but used the pit lane entrance to do it, and the IMSA officials made him tuck back in behind Bergmeister. Then, with two laps to go, Magnussen got by Joerg again, and Bergmeister picks up the story.

“He got by me, but he went too far into the corner and put himself out of position, and I was able to retake the lead. This happened one more time during the lap, and I was in front going into the last turn, when he pushed me twice. We bumped a third time coming out of the corner, and he went into the wall and crashed. While I feel badly that Jan crashed, and I was glad to hear that he was okay, I felt we raced hard and fair, and that the entire Flying Lizard team and my co-driver Patrick earned this win,” said Bergmeister after the race.

It was the team’s sixth GT2 class win of the season, including five wins in a row at St. Petersburg, Long Beach, Salt Lake City, Lime Rock, and Mid-Ohio; and, for Bergmeister, his fourth ALMS GT2 title (2005, 2006, 2008, and 2009). He won the 2005 championship in a Porsche with Patrick, the 2006 title with Patrick (although they did not share the final points as Long drove Sebring in the Penske Porsche RS Spyder), the 2008 title with Wolf Henzler (Germany), and this year again with Patrick. For Long, this was a special year because of the competition the team faced.

“With the addition of Corvette and BMW to the GT2 mix, it was easy to put in what you thought was a perfect lap, only to find out you were only fourth or fifth fastest. But Porsche gave us a car which only came into the pits for fuel and tires – no mechanical problems all year – and the Flying Lizard Motorsports team continually won races for us with their flawless service, innovative strategy, and hard work preparing the car. As for Joerg and I, we complement each other’s strengths and weaknesses, and are able to put all our efforts toward one goal – team victories,” said Long.

100th Win a Milestone

“And to score Porsche’s 100th ALMS win on top of that, it’s a real honor,” added Bergemeister. “We join the long list of Porsche factory drivers – Bob Wollek, Lucas Luhr, Sascha Maassen, Timo Bernhard, Romain Dumas, Dirk Mueller, Randy Pobst, Marc Lieb, Wolf Henzler, Mike Rockenfeller, Ryan Briscoe, Emmanuel Collard – along with many independents, such as Cort Wagner, David Murry, Johannes van Overbeek, Bryce Miller, Richard Westbrook, Helio Castroneves, Kevin Buckler, Johnny Mowlem, B.J. Zacharias, Brian Cunningham, John O’Steen, Martin Snow, Melanie Snow, Patrick Huisman, Craig Stanton, Kelly Collins, and Darryl Havens.

Wolf Henzler and Pierre Ehret (both Germany) finished third in the GT2 class in their #87 Farnbacher Loles Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, moving Wolf up to third place in the final point standings, despite having five different co-drivers this season while his regular teammate, Dirk Werner, was running a successful Farnbacher Loles Porsche effort in the Rolex Grand-Am series which results in a championship.

“The fight with the Panoz was a great battle, fun and fair. A prototype overtook me, but then he had a bad exit and I hit him. I don’t know if he was on cold tires, but I wasn’t expecting him to be so slow. I had to brake really hard, and Dominik in the Panoz had a great run, so he was able to pass me. After that, I was trying really hard to pass him back. I tried two times and we even went side by side through turns 1 through 4. We gave each other room and kept it fair. Finally with two laps until the end, I was able to pass him in the same way he passed me. He ran into traffic and he had a little bit of a bad exit, so I dove in. I had watched him from behind for 15 minutes, so I knew where I could out-brake him. So when we went into turn eleven, I knew I could make the pass so I said, ‘Okay, now or never.’ I made the move, and it worked perfectly,” said Henzler, who won the title last year with Bergmeister.

“Everyone worked very hard this weekend to provide me and Pierre with a good car for the race. We earned our podium position today and our third in the Championship. I’ve known Pierre for a few years now, but this is the first time I’ve driven with him. He’s used to driving Ferraris, but after a few laps in the Porsche, he got much more consistent and confident. He kept the car safe and developed a good rhythm as his stint went on. He was a big help to me today and we earned this podium together,” Henzler added.

Michelin Green X Challenge

Other Porsches got involved in this celebration day, with the #44 Flying Lizard Porsche 911 GT3 RSR driven by Seth Neiman and Johannes van Overbeek (both USA) not only finishing fifth, but winning the Michelin Green X Challenge for the second straight event, scoring enough efficiency points to win the season title for GT cars.

The Michelin Green X Challenge measures the best Green Achievement score from a formula which calculates performance efficiency, greenhouse gas emissions, and petroleum displacement. For the second event in a row, the #44 Porsche ran the ALMS event with E85 fuel (85 percent ethanol).

The #45 Lizard team Porsche was second, and the #87 Farnbacher Loles Porsche third in the Michelin Green X Challenge final GT standings.

The #18 T-Mobile Porsche entered by VICI Racing, despite now entering the race until mid-week and missing the entire first day of scheduled practices, finished seventh with richard Westbrook (England) and Johannes Stuck (Austria) at the helm, while Team Falken Tire Porsche, with Bryan Sellers and Dominic Cicero (both USA) sharing the driving, finished eighth in only their third race.

In the LMP2 class, Klaus Graf (Germany) and car owner Greg Pickett made it four podiums in four events in their Team Cytosport Muscle Milk Porsche RS Spyder, finishing second in class despite a couple of spins and a clutch problem.

“The Muscle Milk Porsche RS Spyder was fantastic today. Unfortunately we had a clutch issue that caused me to go off track when I was warming up the tires during a caution period. After that I had trouble getting it back into gear but let me tell you that nothing other than a Porsche would have continued to make it in this race. It was magnificent. It’s a great testament to their engineering excellence and without that we would not have finished the race. The crew talked me through the re-set procedure for the transmission, which was stuck between gears, and I was on my way,” said Pickett, a former multi-time Trans-Am champion.

Graf, also a former Trans-Am champion, had his adventures on the track as well. “What a race! Fortunately we finished enough of laps to finish second and give us our fourth podium in a row, that’s a big achievement for the team coming into the ALMS LMP2 class at the end of the season, so hats off to the whole team. Obviously it was a pretty eventful race. I had a good start but I was stuck behind an LMP1 car for a couple of laps. I didn’t really get frustrated but I just wanted to get going. The Muscle Milk Porsche RS Spyder was good and I wanted to go faster. So I dove underneath him going into Turn 9, which is a really fast turn. And he just didn’t see me I guess, because he hit me flat out when I was basically through and passed him already. Luckily the Porsche RS Spyder is a really strong car and it only did body work damage and some damage to the wheel so we were able to recover from that and put in some strong laps afterwards. We have a really strong team and I’m really looking forward to next year,” Graf added.

In the American Le Mans Series Challenge class, for the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars running in the Patron GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama series, Melanie and Martin Snow (USA), both still in contention to win individual awards in the Patron series, captured the season championship in their Snow Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car despite not scoring any points at Laguna Seca due to a contaminated fuel issue.

They clinched the championship when the Wesley Hoagland/Bob Faieta Gruppe Orange Porsche did not finish first – a position they needed to overtake the Snows. Faieta took the checkered flag in third position, but later, the car was disqualified for having excess fuel capacity. The Shane Lewis/Mitch Pagery Velox Motorsport Porsche crossed the line in first place, but they too were disqualified (for not meeting the minimum weight) in post-race tech inspection. So, the winners of the ALMS Challenge class were Guy Cosmo and John Baker, in their Orbit Racing Porsche, having been on the pole in all three events they have entered, but scoring their first win.

“Today’s fuel problems were unfortunate, but we had a great season, and we’re glad it ended with a championship,” said Ms. Snow, mother of four and a driving instructor at Utah’s miller Motorsports Park. Along with Dutch champion Patrick Huisman, Martin and Melanie won the GTS class in a Porsche in 1999 to score a win in the first ALMS race at Sebring.

“As the season went on, I got more and more comfortable in our Porsche for these long races, and I had lots of fun,” she added.

Anlässlich des City-Flohmarkts im Südteil der Porschestraße am 23.08.2009&edsp;

wird die Verkehrsführung während der Veranstaltung im Umfeld des&edsp;

Rathauses/ Hollerplatzes wie folgt geändert: Zum einen wird die&edsp;

Rathausstraße nach Bedarf für den Durchgangsverkehr gesperrt. Weiterhin&edsp;

erfolgt in der Schillerpassage eine Einbahnstraßenregelung, wobei die&edsp;

Zufahrt über die Pestalozziallee gewährleistet ist. Die Verkehrsteilnehmer&edsp;

werden gebeten, die geänderten Verkehrsregelungen zu beachten. Die&edsp;

Teilnehmer und Besucher werden gebeten die öffentliche Parkplätze und&edsp;

Parkhäuser zu nutzen. Als Parkmöglichkeiten stehen die Tiefgarage Rathaus&edsp;

und das Parkhaus am CongressPark zur Verfügung.

Da in der Vergangenheit das Parkverhalten rund um den Veranstaltungsort&edsp;

den Verkehr sehr beeinträchtigt und teilweise gefährdet werden die&edsp;

Kontrollen des städtischen Ordnungsdienstes verstärkt. Dabei wird der&edsp;

Schwerpunkt auf Verstöße gegen Haltverbote sowie unberechtigtes Parken in&edsp;

Feuerwehrzufahrten und auf Parkplätzen für Schwerbehinderte liegen. Aber&edsp;

auch Parken auf Busspuren, Bushaltestellen und Gehwegen wird geahndet und&edsp;

gegebenenfalls werden Fahrzeuge abgeschleppt.

Test Drive

It was the kind of accosting that makes the hair on the back of your neck rise, and the uneasy tension able to sneak in. Almost a drubbing, as if we had done a misdeed, and truly overstepped our bounds. All of this, over a visit to test drive a Honda Accord.

Trevor and I are real car geeks. Not motorheads or spark-plug-wingnuts, but enthusiasts on a practicality, design, and industry level. We both subscribe to car magazines, inquisitively read the many auto blogs drifting around the web, and chat about the state of the car industry, which is a mess, these days. All the more reason we thought a visit to test drive a car on a Sunday afternoon might be a lesson in dealer groveling.

Instead, when I inquired into the Accord Coupe, which is a handsome and fun-looking car, I was met with indifference. When I asked if the car came in a manual (which it does), the tall, stocky dealer shifted from standoffish to outright rude. He discounted why anyone would want a manual.

“Listen, no one drives those things anymore. This is automatic. You aren’t ever going to find one, buddy.”

First- I drive one of those things. Not only is a manual transmission not a dying thing, it’s the only way an enthusiast would ever really drive. Second, a term like “buddy” is only okay when it’s meant in the friendly-banter kind-of-way. His demeanor was one of hostility and indignation, and I wondered for a minute if I had done something to offend him. Perhaps his approach to selling cars was usually one of talking down to customers, like an overly-knowledgeable scholar. The problem is, I could tell pretty quickly that Trevor and I knew more about his industry than he did. Which is to me, pitiful. My hopes for getting behind the wheel were collapsing, and Trevor glanced at me nervously, as if to say “Um, what next?”

From there, the conversation devolved into an uncomfortable exchange consisting of me sticking to my ethics, and the dealer trying to make me feel guilty for not wanting to purchase the one Honda Accord coupe he had on the lot.

At one point, he looked at me, his gel-shocked hair glistening, and said “I know your type. I know you’re not here to buy. I can just tell about you.”

Since when has it become a bad thing to be an educated consumer? I wasn’t going to the dealership for any kind of immediate purchase. I was going to get a sense of the cars, how they felt, how they drove, and probably nothing more. But in the eyes of this jerk, I wasn’t a flashing dollar sign, so he needn’t treat me like a real customer. I am tired of people that can’t take the time to indulge in some conversation, some acknowledgment that I went out of my way to investigate the product. If the status quo for buying a car is to show up, take a glance and sign on a dotted line, count me out. I’m a smart consumer, I’d like to think, and part of that is knowing the $25,000 product you’re about to own. So, no, I wasn’t there to buy. Not right then.

I countered, “well, that may be true, but I can certainly tell you I’m not going to buy from you!”

So, the trip was a failure. No test drive, no encouragement to come back in when I was more in the market, nothing. In fact, the guy turned me off so much, that I will probably not consider a Honda in the future, let alone this Ron Tonkin Portland dealer. We left a little shocked, at how an exercise in Sunday exploration could have become such an unpleasant, hostile situation. I’ll spare you the dealer’s name, whose card I have, but suffice it to say, You Fail, Ron Tonkin!

Auto Union Legend Bernd

I’m guessing you’ve never heard of a Italian race driver by the name of Bernd Rosemeyer, unless you’re well on in years.

Not only was he a gifted & brave race driver in the 1930’s, but he would also go on to accomplish some astonishing high speed milestones, including a straight line speed of 380km/h in the super impressive, streamlined Auto Sumitomo tires Union Type C car.

He was also the first driver to smash through 400km/h on a public road, & to lap the Nurburgring in less than 10 minutes.

Bernd Rosemeyer would be turning 100 on October 14, had he been alive today, if not for his fatal record attempt at the world speed record on an Autobahn between Frankfurt & Darmstadt, in Germany on January 28, 1938.

Mercedes driver, Rudolf Caracciola had gone out early & set a new record with 432km/h in calm conditions. Rosemeyer then took his Auto Union Streamliner out for a run, despite reports that the wind was picking up.

Bild 146-1989-015-35A He was five of Auto Union’s star drivers in Grand Prix races driving a Silver Arrows car with plenty of wins in Europe, USA & Africa.

On his third & final attempt while travelling at over 430km/h, the car skidded to the left & right, before becoming airborne. Rosemeyer was thrown from the car as it somersaulted through the air & died at the roadside.

The Auto Union Silver Arrows cars were hugely powerful with 373 kW (500 hp) & difficult to drive. Only Rosemeyer & Italian driver, Tazio Nuvolari were said to have mastered these cars.

You’ll recognise the Auto Union circles on the side of the Silver Arrows work trolley, next to the car at this Goodwood Revival Festival, as Audi’s badge today.

Rosemeyer would also marry famous Italian aviator Elly Beinhorn (seen here with Bernd & Ferdinand Porsche), who among other achievements, was only the second female pilot to fly solo from Europe to Australia, after Amy Johnson.

R36 für 2013 und SpecM für 2010

Das englische Automagazin PistonHeads hat am Nürburgring mit Andy Palmer, Nissan Senior Vice President und Vizechef der globalen Produktplanung, geplaudert. Palmer hat in dem Gespräch ein paar Einblicke in die Zukunft des GT-R gegeben.

Trotz wirtschaftlich schwieriger Zeiten und Einschnitten bei anderen Programmen wird beim R35 nicht der Rotstift angesetzt werden. Nissan will den GT-R stattdessen Jahr für Jahr konsequent weiterentwickeln und spätestens 2013 seinen Nachfolger fertig haben. Der wird das Rad aber nicht völlig neu erfinden, sondern viele Konstruktionsmerkmale vom R35 übernehmen. Was wir also erwarten können, sind wieder ein V6 mit Doppelturbo und ein Transaxle-Getriebe, das für eine optimale Gewichtsverteilung sorgt…

Währenddessen bekommt auch der R35 wieder einige Upgrades für das kommende Modelljahr. Einerseits wird die Federung etwas straffer ausgelegt , damit der Fahrer noch mehr Rückmeldungen vom Asphalt bekommt, wenn er sportlich unterwegs ist. Andererseits sorgen neu konstruierte Lufteinlässe an den Hinterrädern und die Übernahme des hinteren Diffusors vom SpecV für eine bessere Aerodynamik und besser gekühlte Bremsen.

Weitere Änderungen gibts noch beim Bordcomputer. Für betuchte Mitglieder der Playstation-Generation vielleicht nicht uninteressant, werden künftige GT-R Besitzer per USB-Stick Daten herunterladen und daheim am PC analysieren bzw. online mit anderen Besitzern vergleichen können. Die 2010 GT-R werden außerdem die strengere Abgasnorm Euro 5 erfüllen.

Ein paar Informationen gab es auch noch zum SpecM, der entgegen einiger Gerüchte noch nicht auf der Tokyo Motor Show Pemiere feiern wird, sondern erst im kommenden Jahr vorgestellt werden wird. Der SpecM wird kein weichgespülter Komfort-GT-R, sondern im Kern die meisten Merkmale der Basisversion übernehmen. Dafür wird es aber viele Ausstattungsoptionen geben, um sich seinen SpecM wirklich individuell zusammenzustellen.

M&M Auto Quotient ain't that sweet

On 22nd of September, we were all anxious about this colossal of a quiz, supposed to happen in BITS-Pilani. It was an auto quiz, and my friends had like always again thought quite conveniently of excluding me from their teams, because, well the Vlad was no auto-junkie.

At the last moment, my brah Santa, collaborated with me in a cunning adventure. The day was pretty hectic, to top with a Transport Phenomena-2 Lab. Then I ran the steps upto Room 2220 also familiarly called the ET or Engineering Theatre. We were greeted by some Mahindra men and women, all wearing white with a a small logo asking rhetorically “BIG FAN OF AUTO?“. The back side said “PROVE IT. Mahindra Auto Quotient” (Prove it, I say)

The prizes were pretty captivating, kind of like a dream come true, but I definitely couldn’t avail of the first and second prizes because of the simple reason that ” I don’t have a passport“.

We settled down and engaged in casual trivial chit-chat with our compatriots and started creating nuisance. In some time, a tall, fair, young, just-out-of-college guy turned up and introduced him as our quiz-master. This is how I would describe him

“He was a Sardar (Surd), as in someone from the plains of Punjab. He had a Khara on his right arm and had an assortment of various bands sticking close to it. He was about 6 feet 4 inches, was fair, quite inexperienced and had the typical Surd accent. He was a Mount Strombo of Sardar jokes, waiting to splurge out anytime. He just didn’t have any charisma. He wore a red t-shirt coupled with jester-like pointy edged shoes in black leather. A Typical Chom.”

After a delay of around 90 minutes, we got to the prelims. The prelims were confusing, as the questions were all trivia. We thought we would never make it. When it was time to finally reveal the answers, everybody was throwing up all their limbs in anticipation of grand audience prizes. Clearly Mr. QM had no idea what to do. People were blurting out answers everywhere. So he would go from one person to another asking for the correct answer, which took so much time, approximately about 5 minutes for each question. And when he finally encountered the right answer, he would pause, as though he was inducing an unknown dose of lethal suspense into the irritated atmosphere. he was getting on my nerves by repeatedly doing, “Your answerrr……… is absolutely correcttt“. Not even ‘absolutely right‘, but ‘absolutely correct‘.

After a gruelling 40 to 45 minutes of QM- induced-torture, we were astonished to realise that we had actually made the cut-off. Prahytech and Eswar were sulking in the audience. It was stupid, the whole affair actually. The teams were named after many of Mahindra’s brands. We were Team Max Pick Up. Sexually perverted enough.

We ended second and lost the opportunity to make it to the next level, but we didn’t mind. Some important points I would like to stress over here are

1) This quiz was the worst one I ever attended. The QM obviously had no clue what he was asking or what the answers were.

2) No background knowledge provided by their research team.

3) Huge delays, and lot of wasted money.

4) No adequate consolation prizes to even the first runners up.

5) In one question, the QM asks the age-old question “In the 1994 Imola Grand prix , why did Ayrton Senna carry an Austrian flag with him?” The obvious answer would be , “Ronald Ratzenberger died the last day in the qualifying race, so Ayrton wanted to wave the falg in honour of Ronald when he crossed the finish-line.” But one team answers in a way, it invokes laughter in the rest of us sensible fellas “Because he wanted to wave the flag” and he accepts it. We argue but to no avail. He was as dumb as a doorknob.

6) One team identifies a roadster as Chinkara, but doesn’t add Roadster to the name. We add both of them together and say “Chinkara Roadster” and we get points.

7) We all hated him.

I was disappointed with the quiz. Though the concept was good, but only able, intelligent people should be let host a quiz. Quiz-hosting is a hard and tough job, he chooses between right or wrong. Idiots are not welcome.

Congrats to the 2nd-yearite team who made it to the next level. Luck was on their side.

HOWTO: Jak się logować do SAP nie wpisując ręcznie użytkownika i hasła przy użyciu programu KeePass w Windows.

Program może automagicznie wpisywać dane na podstawie nazwy okienka. Działa to nie tylko z SAP GUI.

Ustawiamy pokazywanie większej ilości informacji w nazwie okienka SAP GUI – ID systemu, nr okienka, mandant. Jest to potrzebne, aby KeePass mógł rozróżnić do jakiego systemu się logujemy.

Wygląda to tak jak na obrazku poniżej i może się przydać nie tylko do wypełniania hasła:

Uzyskujemy to wprowadzając do rejestru odpowiedni wpis w opcjach SAP GUI:

Pobieramy darmowy (opensource) program KeePass do zarządzania hasłami. Można pobrać wersję portable – nie trzeba jej instalować, wystarczy rozpakować i uruchomić.
Gdy już mamy uruchomiony program KeePass i skonfigurujemy do swoich potrzeb, ustalamy dodatkowo w opcjach klawisz, który będzie wywoływał wypełnianie danych logowania (Global auto-type):

Na okienku powyżej jest ustalone, że gdy nacisnę domyślny klawisz wywołujący działanie Auto-type w okienku, które ma w nazwie „DAM” oraz „SAP”, KeePass uruchomi sekwencje {USERNAME}{TAB}{PASSWORD}{ENTER}, a to spowoduje zalogowanie się do SAP używając danych dla konta.

Carroll Shelby was undoubtedly the greatest single force behind American auto racing over the last 60+ years. From his legendary racing career, to reinventing the image of American road-racers in European competitive racing and beyond. In 1962, and with no official engineering background, Carroll Shelby created the legendary, stallion-slaying Cobra, which soon ended Ferrari’s all-out domination of the World’s Manufacturing Championship. For him, the recipe was simple and oft repeated– put a massive engine in a lightweight, nimble car.

In 1965, the Shelby Mustang GT350 made its production debut setting off a legendary battle for power and prestige between rival Detroit automakers– which would from that day on be known as the “Pony War”.

In 1964, Carroll Shelby was asked by Ford to apply that same winning Cobra recipe into it’s new Mustang. Initially created to compete in the SCAA/B production competition just for racing, the 1965 GT350 R Model began its dominance on American racing circuits and making a name for itself by winning the SCCA B production championship in 1965, 1966 and 1967. Ford wanted to put a version on the street known as the GT350– essentially a de-tuned and reworked R Model and it catapulted Mustang into the world of high performance. It became one of the most popular and recognizable brands in the automotive industry. The Shelby Mustang GT350 will also forever be connected with screen and auto legend costar, Steve McQueen, in the classic film Bullitt. The performance evolution continued with the famed king of the road, the GT500. For several years production continued, until 1969 when Carroll Shelby and Ford parted company. Ford evolved the Shelby program into the Boss 302 and Mach 1 Mustangs of the early ’70s.

The 1967 Shelby GT500 (the GT350’s big-block brother) came equipped standard with the 428 cubic-inch Police Interceptor engine, 2 Holley 4 barrel carbs, and headers as an option. In February 1968, the GT500KR “King of the Road” debuted– under the hood was the 428 cubic-inch Cobra Jet V8, conservatively rated at 335 horsepower. Due to an untimely production strike at Ford, some early 1968 GT500’s had a 390 cubic-inch V8. Also in 1968, production of Shelby Mustangs switched from Shelby’s shop in California to A.O. Smith Company in Michigan.
